The genesis, development and implementation of an interdisciplinary university Cross-School Research Group
This article examines the genesis, development and implementation of an interdisciplinary university cross-school research group (three individual schools) at Federation University in Australia. This CSRG is a consequence of both local and national calls for interdisciplinarity in university research and a direct response to the revised Strategic Goals and Policy document at Federation University. Localisation of the Sustainable Development Goals in an emerging nation
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), agreed to by all member countries of the United Nations, require urgent action on the world's most pressing problems. Success requires bottom‐up participation of local stakeholders. This case study of Timor‐Leste—a fledgling, fossil fuel‐supported economy—maps the awareness and commitment of grassroots stakeholders to the SDGs and the roadblocks to localisation. The approach to process innovation taken in this study is to identify new capital stock introduced through physical investment, which results in the older vin…
Technological innovation
Galbraith, in his work on The New Industrial State, provides the crucial institutional base from which to appreciate corporate technological innovation. This approach is modified by the work of other institutional writers in the context of changing industrial realities, including the rise of start-up entrepreneurs. Post Keynesians have developed a monopoly capitalist research agenda that implies certain important elements of human agency that ins…
IT Investment Strategy for Development
In April 1997, Tasmania (Australia) adopted the reputably successful New Brunswick (Canada) industrial strategy to build an information technology (IT) industry of significance. The strategy aims to overcome isolation in small regional economies and structurally change from declining natural resource industries. Both plans reject neo-classical economics-based industry policy, opting instead for a strong state-based investment planning approach. A…
