  • Cultural Competence in Healthcare Leadership Education and Development

    Open Access•Steve Gulati, Catherine Weir•ARTICLE•Societies•2022•References: 2

Cultural competence is a phenomenon that straddles many disciplines and fields of study. There is no settled definition of the term, and it is argued that this is not necessary to explore or discuss the phenomenon as it is context-dependent across diverse societies. Explorations of cultural competence in clinical education and training are well-established, but there has been less attention towards its expression in the field of developing health…

  • Infant Contingency/Extinction Performance After Observing Partial Reinforcement

Open Access•Catherine Weir, Cynthia Toland et al.•ARTICLE•Infancy•2005

Social information gathering by infants 6 and 12 months old was examined as a foundation for later social learning that may be uniquely human. Infant performance on a contingency/extinction task was studied following a caregiver demonstration of the contingency on varied reinforcement schedules. Infants who observed caregivers receive any reinforcing stimulation in pretraining decreased responding over their own acquisition period, possibly becau…

  • Evaluation of the Teaching of Statistical Concepts by Interactive Experience With Monte Carlo Simulations

Open Access•C G WEIR, Catherine Weir et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Educational…•1991

S ummary . Two studies evaluated the effectiveness of interactive computer demonstrations in teaching about statistical sampling distributions. Students used a Monte Carlo simulation of either standard errors (SEMDEMO) or F‐distributions (FDEMO) and were subsequently tested on both concepts. In Study 1 only lower ability students using FDEMO showed improved attainment related to their specific experience. SEMDEMO was then simplified, following st…

  • Sex differences in the preferences for specific female body shapes

  • Interviews as an Aid to Selection of Psychology Undergraduates

    Open Access•Catherine Weir•ARTICLE•British Journal of Educational…•1976

S ummary . The relationships between class of degree in psychology from one department and ( a ) interview ratings, ( b ) two adult intelligence tests, and ( c ) advanced‐level examinations were examined in a sample of 145 students from four year‐groups. Roughly the same amount of variance of degree class could be accounted for by using the interviewer rating and intelligence test scores as by using prior academic performance. The best prediction…

  • Extraction of information from continuously masked successive stimuli

N F Dixon, Susan Henley et al.•ARTICLE•The Review of Black Political…•1975

Results from this series of brief pilot experiments suggest that, under certain conditions, it is humanly possible to extract information from superimposed continuously masked letter strings presented successively on the VDU of a microprocessor
