  • The place beyond the trees: Renewed excavations of the Middle Stone Age deposits at Olieboomspoort in the Waterberg Mountains of the South African Savanna Biome

Open Access•A Val, Paloma De La Peña et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2021•Cited by: 14•References: 96

Olieboomspoort is one of the few rock shelters in the vast interior of southern Africa documenting pulses of occupation from the Acheulean until the end of the Later Stone Age. Revil Mason excavated the site in 1954 and attributed the large Middle Stone Age (MSA) lithic assemblage to his middle phase of the so-called Pietersburg Industry. Recent work at the site has focused on the Holocene layers, but little is known about the earlier phases of s…

  • Pope, Church and City: Essays in Honour of Brenda M. Bolton

    A Murray, Alan V Murray•ARTICLE•The English Historical Review•2006

IN 1983 Brenda Bolton, then lecturing at Westfield College, produced a paperback on religious movements c.1100–c.1250, and called it The Medieval Reformation. The title was a programme, since it matched the evangelical awakening of those years with the later ‘reformation’. Before and after 1983, in the same subject area, Miss Bolton has written over thirty substantial papers, a few collected in her 1995 volume, Innocent III, and meanwhile taught,…

  • Establishing a chronology for the last 1000 years of laminated sediment accumulation at Lake Barrine, a tropical upland maar lake, northeastern Australia

    Open Access•D Walker, Donald A Walker et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2000•Cited by: 1•References: 6

Radiocarbon dates from the uppermost 115 cm of laminated mud beneath the centre of a small crater lake are affected by the residence-time in the marginal shallows of the organic detritus which, after transport to deep water, forms alternate layers in the sediment column. The delay is estimated from radiocarbon ages of source materials, trapped seston and the upper levels of the sediment column based on the ‘post-bomb’ atmospheric radiocarbon flux…
