The money market in transition: From city-based market arbitrage to a central banking system in nineteenth-century Spain
This research supports the singularity of the Spanish case. The lessons we can learn are a product of the short transition in the mid 1880s from a city-based monetary system (supported by private actors) to a central banking system in the absence of a developed banking system with a nationwide scope, unlike what occurred in the rest of Western Europe. Introducing market arbitrage, we provide novel evidence – using new data – of how price formatio…
Identifying the impact of the business cycle on drug-related harms in European countries
The relationship between economic cycles and drug-related harms is pro-cyclical. However, in situations of economic downturns, a counter-cyclical effect is detected, as identified during the 2008 economic recession
Bienestar subjetivo, renta y bienes relacionales.
Almost Unbiased Estimation in Simultaneous Equation Models With Strong and/or Weak Instruments
We propose two simple bias-reduction procedures that apply to estimators in a general static simultaneous equation model and that are valid under relatively weak distributional assumptions for the errors. Standard jackknife estimators, as applied to 2SLS, may not reduce the bias of the exogenous variable coefficient estimators since the estimator biases are not monotonically nonincreasing with sample size (a necessary condition for successful bia…
