Of smoke and silence
Energy poverty remains a persistent socio-environmental challenge in Eastern Europe, deeply rooted in post-socialist legacies of infrastructural neglect, economic inequality, and inefficient energy systems. Despite growing attention to energy poverty, relatively little is known about its heterogeneous profiles and spatial patterns across Eastern European households. This paper uses Latent Class Analysis (LCA) on microdata from six Eastern Europea…
Fuel poverty and mental health in a Covid-19 context
Fuel poverty is a widespread problem which affects people's health and has serious economic and social repercussions. Mental health has been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and appears to be particularly influenced by fuel poverty. We analyze this relationship while highlighting the unequal vulnerability of individuals in the population. We first built a novel database of 4194 representative observations of the French adult population…
Residential CO2 Emissions in Europe and Carbon Taxation
This paper examines the determinants of residential CO2 emissions, which are not covered by the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), in 19 European countries between 2000-2017. Using both static and dynamic panel models, we found strong relationships between CO2 emissions per capita, GDP per capita, energy prices and heating needs. We then assessed the impact of European carbon taxation and show that a €20/tonne CO2 tax lowers emissi…

Energy Burden Alleviation and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction
