  • Instrumental Variable Estimation of Dynamic Treatment Effects on a Duration Outcome

Jad Beyhum, Samuele Centorrino et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Business and Economic…•2024

This article considers identification and estimation of the causal effect of the time Z until a subject is treated on a duration T. The time-to-treatment is not randomly assigned, T is randomly right censored by a random variable C, and the time-to-treatment Z is right censored by T∧C. The endogeneity issue is treated using an instrumental variable explaining Z and independent of the error term of the model. We study identification in a fully non…

  • Nonparametric Instrumental Regression With Right Censored Duration Outcomes

Jad Beyhum, Jean-Pierre Florens et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Business and Economic…•2022

This article analyzes the effect of a discrete treatment Z on a duration T. The treatment is not randomly assigned. The confounding issue is treated using a discrete instrumental variable explaining the treatment and independent of the error term of the model. Our framework is nonparametric and allows for random right censoring. This specification generates a nonlinear inverse problem and the average treatment effect is derived from its solution.…

  • Gaussian Processes and Bayesian Moment Estimation

Jean-Pierre Florens, Jean‐Pierre Florens et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Business and Economic…•2021

Given a set of moment restrictions (MRs) that overidentify a parameter θ, we investigate a semiparametric Bayesian approach for inference on θ that does not restrict the data distribution F apart from the MRs. As main contribution, we construct a degenerate Gaussian process prior that, conditionally on θ, restricts the F generated by this prior to satisfy the MRs with probability one. Our prior works even in the more involved case where the numbe…

  • Estimation of Conditional Ranks and Tests of Exogeneity in Nonparametric Nonseparable Models

Frédérique Fève, Jean-Pierre Florens et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Business and Economic…•2018

Consider a nonparametric nonseparable regression model Y = φ(Z, U), where φ(Z, U) is strictly increasing in U and U ∼ U[0, 1]. We suppose that there exists an instrument W that is independent of U. The observable random variables are Y, Z, and W, all one-dimensional. We construct test statistics for the hypothesis that Z is exogenous, that is, that U is independent of Z. The test statistics are based on the observation that Z is exogenous if and …

  • Identification and Estimation in a Third-Price Auction Model

  • Simulation-Based Method of Moments and Efficiency

Marine Carrasco, Jean-Pierre Florens et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Business and Economic…•2002

The method of moments is based on a relation Eθ0(h(Xt, θ)) = 0, from which an estimator of θ is deduced. In many econometric models, the moment restrictions can not be evaluated numerically due to, for instance, the presence of a latent variable. Monte Carlo simulations method make possible the evaluation of the generalized method of moments (GMM) criterion. This is the basis for the simulated method of moments. Another approach involves defining…
