Open Access•Alicia Garcı́a-Herrero, Théo Huvos Storella et al.•ARTICLE•Economic and Political Studies•2026

We investigate China’s influence in the United Nations (UN) by focussing on its narratives (words) and voting behaviour (deeds). For the former, we assess the extent to which China’s global initiatives have become embedded in UN discourse compared to those promoted by North American and European countries (hereafter ‘the West’). Our framework compares distinct narratives of global governance, contrasting a cohesive group of Western narratives wit…

Jinghan Cai, Alicia Garcı́a-Herrero et al.•ARTICLE•Economic and Political Studies•2019

We document that in China the maturity dates of bank-issued wealth management products (WMPs) cluster toward the end of a month and then decrease significantly at the beginning of the following month. Our empirical work detects a negative relationship between a bank’s loan-to-deposit ratio (LDR) at month-ends and the number of its issued WMPs expiring within several days of the month-end. Moreover, this WMP clustering and the negative relationshi…

  • Hong Kong as an international banking center

Alicia Garcı́a-Herrero, ALICIA GARCIA-HERRERO•ARTICLE•Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy•2011•Cited by: 3

The banking industry is key for Hong Kong's economy, but Hong Kong is not a big international banking center, at least not when compared with other centers belonging to large economic areas, such as New York and, to a lesser extent, Tokyo. Within Asia, Hong Kong has a larger banking sector as a whole, but the position is similar if we focus on the offshore side of it, where Singapore is growing faster than Hong Kong. Furthermore, Singapore is bei…

  • Finance for Growth
