Reducing the environmental impact of food consumption through fiscal policies
This study examines the environmental impacts of human food consumption from an economic policy perspective, investigating how fiscal policy can mitigate the environmental footprints associated with this consumption. Focusing on carbon emissions (CF), water use (WF), and food loss and waste (FLW), the analysis uses Spain as a case study to estimate price elasticities of footprints (how footprints respond to a 1% price increase in each food catego…
The Effect of Dependence on European Market Risk. A Nonparametric Time Varying Approach
Multivariate dependence measures are crucial for risk management, where variables usually have heavy tails and non-Gaussian distributions. We propose a multivariate time varying Kendall’s tau estimator in a nonparametric context, allowing for local stationary variables. Consistency and asymptotic normality of the estimator are provided. A simulation study is conducted which supports the idea of better performance than other related methods in man…
The role of production factors on landings heterogeneity between EU countries
Distribution of natural resources is considered to be a key aspect in ensuring the success of conservation policies. The Common Fisheries Policy, implemented by the European Union (EU), is an example of long-term international cooperation for sustainability of the marine environment. Nonetheless, continued enforcement of the policy is threatened by its insufficient effectiveness in restoring fish stocks and the tensions that have arisen over uneq…
The Knowledge‐capital Model of Fdi
The present article reexamines some of the issues regarding the Knowledge‐Capital Model that encompasses both horizontal and vertical Foreign Direct Investment. The empirical support for this model is however mixed. This article proposes a new way of estimating coefficients by allowing them to vary over time. The estimation results obtained using data from 30 OECD countries for the period from 1982 to 2003 confirm that these coefficients cannot b…
