Alliance Under Pressure
Amidst a tense geopolitical environment and a rapidly evolving security landscape, this study investigates the determinants of alliance cohesion within NATO from its founding in 1949, examining both micro (dyadic) cohesion and macro (systemic) cohesion. The analysis employs an original dataset of more than 22,000 observations and introduces a novel operationalization of alliance political cohesion. A central finding outlines the role of trade asy…
Inflation in Tourism Sector
Tourism is a critical sector that significantly contributes to the global economy, yet it is highly susceptible to external shocks. This paper examines the impact of geopolitical and climate shocks on tourism inflation across major European tourism destinations (1997M1–2023M12). To the best of our knowledge, no previous studies have systematically addressed how the climate and geopolitical spillover effects asymmetrically influence the transmissi…
The Greek tourism-led growth revisited
The paper investigates empirically the tourism-growth relationship in Greece, over the period 1960-2020. We find that the long-run relationship between tourism and output is positive and is characterized by a substantially faster convergence of output after a negative shock than after a positive one. Using asymmetric error-correction model analysis the results show that the short-term adjustment path occurs through the level of output for negativ…

Revising the conventional tax‐effort principle
The standard methodology on tax‐effort (i.e., the ratio of actual tax revenue to its optimal level) is to run a regression of actual tax revenue on countries’ specific (macroeconomic, demographic, geographical, political, social, and institutional) variables. The resulting predicted (fitted) values are then taken to represent the optimal (desired or maximum) level of tax revenue. The crucial issue of tracing out how the optimal tax revenue should…
