  • Det kannibalske øje

    Open Access•Arild Fetveit•ARTICLE•MedieKultur Journal of media and…•2002•References: 2

• Anti-essentialism and reception studies

    Open Access•Arild Fetveit•ARTICLE•International Journal of Cultural…•2001•Cited by: 1•References: 15

This article argues that the proliferation of reception studies, together with a radical undermining of the text, has been nourished by a misconceived anti-essentialism. The article warns against overrating the freedom of the reader and against thinking that it is more in line with anti-essentialist notions to describe how texts and other objects are perceived, rather than describing their characteristics. Following a brief historical sketch of a…

  • Reality TV in the digital era

    Open Access•Arild Fetveit•ARTICLE•Media Culture & Society•1999•Cited by: 3•References: 3

The simultaneous proliferation of digital image manipulation and reality TV seems somewhat paradoxical. The death of photography is proclaimed at a time when the use of cameras to produce visible evidence is approaching an all-time high. This coexistence, it is argued, testifies to a transmutation within our visual culture. The credibility of photographical discourses has become less dependent upon common technological features and more based upo…

  • Anti-essentialisme og receptionsforskning. Et forsvar for teksten

    Open Access•Arild Fetveit•ARTICLE•MedieKultur Journal of media and…•1996
