  • Prenatal care effectiveness and utilization in Brazil

    Open Access•George L Wehby, J C Murray et al.•ARTICLE•Health Policy and Planning•2009•Cited by: 17•References: 28

The impact of prenatal care use on birth outcomes has been understudied in South American countries. This study assessed the effects of various measures of prenatal care use on birth weight (BW) and gestational age outcomes using samples of infants born without and with common birth defects from Brazil, and evaluated the demand for prenatal care. Prenatal visits improved BW in the group without birth defects through increasing both fetal growth r…

  • Dean's Yard, Westminster

    J C Murray, Jon Murray•ARTICLE•Medieval Archaeology•2003

ARCHAEOLOGICAL investigations during underpinning works at 17 Dean's Yard, Westminster (Westminster School) revealed a deep sequence of medieval land-reclamation deposits overlying middle to Late Saxon alluvium and basal sand and gravel. The site lies within the area of the medieval Abbey precinct and also within a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site. The foundations of the present building were found to incorporate re-used stonework, possibly …

  • Excavations at the Peel of Lumphanan, Aberdeenshire, 1975-9

Norman S Newton, Eric J Talbot et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the Society of…•1999

Five seasons of excavation on this earthwork castle provided fragmentary information about the initial modification and occupation of a natural drumlin, with associated wet ditch, outer bank and stone causeway. In its earliest phase the site was associated with the Durward family. Ceramic and numismatic evidence indicates an initial occupation span from the mid 13th century to the early 14th century. Subsequently the site was reoccupied in the la…

  • Excavations at Rattray, Aberdeenshire. A Scottish Deserted Burgh

    Hilary Murray, H K Murray et al.•ARTICLE•Medieval Archaeology•1993•Cited by: 1•References: 18

DOCUMENTARY sources identify the deserted settlement of Rattray, Aberdeenshire, as a royal burgh from the mid 16th century and as a probable burgh of barony from the 13th century. Excavation has revealed a more complex settlement history with a late 12th- or early 13th-century defensive motte having been replaced by a more manorial establishment which encouraged the development of an adjacent settlement between the 13th and 15th centuries. Domest…
