Evaluation of a Suicide Counseling Skills Course for Social Work Students

Differences across intersecting racial, ethnic, and gender identity in the spatiotemporal patterning of suicide clusters in the US from 2005-2020
Suicide rates and spatial clusters have increased since 2005, with distinct patterning between sociodemographic groups. The identification of specific communities that may be at disproportional risk for suicide highlight opportunities to tailor individual- and population-level prevention efforts in emerging high-risk groups

The Constructed Meaning of Suicide
Examining synchronous chats from an online suicide crisis intervention, we used contrapuntal analysis to identify competing discourses of meaning among online suicide chat users. Contrapuntal analysis revealed two emergent discourses in competition to make meaning of suicide among crisis chat users: Discourses of the Precious Life (DPL) and Discourses of Life as a Thing (DLT). We conducted a secondary analysis of the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) to examine child abuse and neglect hospitalization from 1998-2016. The NIS is the largest all-payer, inpatient care database in the United States and is maintained by the Health Care Utilization Project.
