Policies and practices impacting the implementation of nature-based solutions
Nature-based solutions (NBS) are increasingly suggested to address biodiversity decline and climate change. However, many ecosystems are hardly used as NBS, including ponds and pondscapes. We therefore examine how policies and practices affect their implementation as NBS. Using a content analysis of policy documents and stakeholder inputs, we assess the policy context in eight countries but also zoom in on policies and practices in seventeen pond…

America's Changing Attitudes toward Homosexuality, Civil Unions, and Same-Gender Marriage
On May 17, 2004, Massachusetts became the first state to legalize same-gender marriage. From California to Missouri, nearly all states now face legislative challenges to the once firmly entrenched notion that marriage can only exist between a man and a woman. Public opinion polls conducted from 1977 to 2004 found that Americans' attitudes toward gay men and lesbians and marriages or civil unions for same-gender couples have evolved. Opposition pe…
Mid- to late-Holocene land-use change and lake development at Dallund Sø, Denmark
Analyses of cladoceran remains were conducted on an 11-m sediment core from Dallund Sø Denmark, covering approximately the last 7000 years. The densities of planktivorous fish and macrophyte coverage were inferred from previously established transfer functions for Danish lakes using pelagic and plant-associated cladocerans, respectively, as palaeoenvironmental indicators. This is the first reconstruction of the abundance of fish and macrophytes c…
