  • Determinants of fiscal decentralization

    Francisco J Delgado, Manuel Landajo•ARTICLE•Policy Studies•2025•References: 81

  • Environmental innovations in the EU

Open Access•Valeria Costantini, Francisco J Delgado et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Innovation and…•2023

Eco-innovation, which combines innovation and sustainable development, has become an essential instrument to strengthen economic growth and preserve the environment. Considering the eco-innovation index for the EU, we study the convergence of eco-innovation across countries for the period 2012–2021 through the club convergence approach. We evaluate if and to what extent EU countries are converging toward a homogenous eco-innovation dynamic patter…

  • Public Expenditure and Economic Growth

    Open Access•Francisco J Delgado•ARTICLE•Politická ekonomie•2023•References: 78

The relationship between government size and economic growth is a major task in the economic literature and this paper is devoted to public expenditure. We empirically study the relationship between public expenditure and economic growth in the European Union. Our approach consists on a quantile regression for the period 2004-2019.The results show a negative and significant impact of total public expenditure on economic growth, with a higher effect…

  • R&D expenditure in the EU

    Open Access•Francisco Arrieta, Francisco A Blanco et al.•ARTICLE•Economic Research-Ekonomska…•2020

This article examines the convergence of the R&D expenditure in the EU28 for 2004–2015. We initially run a sigma convergence analysis and the results show convergence in the total expenditure, due to the behaviour of the business and higher education sectors, despite government sector divergence. However, noticeable differences between the EU15 and 13 EU countries are apparent. The business enterprise sector is the main driver of EU15 R&D converg…

  • Fiscal Decentralization Policies in the EU

Francisco Blanco, Francisco Arrieta et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Comparative Policy…•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 2

We study the degree of convergence or divergence in fiscal decentralization in the European Union over the period 1995–2015 using a club convergence approach. First, we analyze non-central expenditure and revenue as percentages of GDP, of total expenditure and of total revenue. The results for the EU-15 countries indicate some clustering, with three clubs formed when using GDP and four to five when using total revenue or expenditure. Second, we s…

  • Corporation effective tax rates and company size

Open Access•Francisco J Delgado, Elena Fernández Rodríguez et al.•ARTICLE•Economic Research-Ekonomska…•2018

We investigate the relationship between the effective tax rate (E.T.R.) and company size in Germany to test tax planning–political power versus political cost theories. In contrast to most studies in this field, which use linear approximations, this paper uses a quantile regression approach. We use data from Compustat, corresponding to non-financial listed companies during 1992–2009. The results indicate a nonlinear relation, with a positive sign…
