  • Late Pleistocene glaciation in the headwaters of the Ceremuşul Alb valley (Maramureş Mountains, Romania)

Open Access•Piotr Kłapyta, Marcel Mîndrescu et al.•ARTICLE•Geographia Polonica•2023

The Late Pleistocene Jupania palaeoglacier (area 0.85 km2 , 1.7 km long) was reconstructed in the headwaters of the Ceremuşul Alb/Bilyj Cheremosh valley (Maramureş Mountains). The study area represents one of the most inaccessible natural areas in the Romanian part of the Eastern Carpathians where the legacy of the Pleistocene glaciation has recently been discovered. Based on mapping of glacial landforms and deposits, we reconstruct glacier dimen…

  • Geomorphological record and equilibrium line altitude of glaciers during the last glacial maximum in the Rodna Mountains (eastern Carpathians)

Open Access•Piotr Kłapyta, Marcel Mîndrescu et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2021

In the eastern Carpathians the legacy of glaciation is preserved in several isolated mountain massifs. This paper presents new mapping results of glaciated valley land systems in the Rodna Mountains, the highest part of the eastern Carpathians (2303 m above seal level). In most of the glacial valleys, the maximal Pleistocene extent is marked by freshly shaped moraines, which are referred in this study as the Pietroasa glacial stage and regarded a…

  • Klimatyczne uwarunkowania rozwoju osadnictwa na prawie wołoskim w Karpatach Zachodnich na przełomie XV i XVI wieku na przykładzie Podtatrza

    Open Access•Piotr Kłapyta•ARTICLE•Balcanica Posnaniensia Acta et…•2021

  • Geomorphology of the high-elevated flysch range – Mt. Babia Góra Massif (Western Carpathians)

    Open Access•Piotr Kłapyta•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2020

A detailed geomorphological map of the Mt. Babia Góra Massif (1725 m a.s.l.), at a scale 1:10,000 is presented. A slope, glacial, periglacial and fluvial features were mapped on the base of the coupled field studies and LiDAR DEM analyses. This study underlines the complexity of rock slope failures (RSFs), in shaping the morphology of compact and isolated upland, exhibiting one of the highest incidences of RSFs yet recorded in Europe (29% for a w…

  • Late Glacial and Holocene paleoenvironmental records in the Tatra Mountains, East-Central Europe, based on lake, peat bog and colluvial sedimentary data

Open Access•Piotr Kłapyta, Jerzy Zasadni et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2016

  • The Tatra Mountains during the Last Glacial Maximum

    Open Access•Jerzy Zasadni, Piotr Kłapyta•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2014

The Tatra Mountains extend along the border between Slovakia and Poland in the Western Carpathians. It is the highest and formerly one of the most glaciated massifs in the entire Carpathian mountain chain. We present a paleoglaciological map of the Tatra Mts. and its foreland (ca. 1270 km-super-2) for the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) at the scale 1:50 000. We re-evaluate geomorphological evidence for all Tatra glacial systems identified in the lite…
