Craftivism Between Nationalism and Activism in Ukraine and Belarus
This article outlines the history and significance of Craftivism in Eastern Europe. Using two case studies of artists it investigates the use of the craft language in Eastern Europe and its usability for activism. British craft revival workshops enabled privileged women to educate those less fortunate, from the ‘labouring classes’, to undertake professional training or supplement their income through a productive hobby. Such workshops also allowed elite women to further their own responsibilities.
