Differences among Chicano and White Students on Items of Machiavellianism Scale
121 Chicano and 112 white college students showed no significant differences in their total scores on the Machiavellianism scale. But a stepwise discriminant analysis using the 20 individual items of the scale yielded two significant discriminant functions which could distinguish between the two cultural groups and between the men and the women within the white sub-sample
Group Composition and Machiavellianism
Christie's model of Machiavellianism is generally precise within the parameters it uses but it leaves out certain factors included in this study. Using the Mach IV and Mach V scales subjects were classified according to their mach level and asked to play in a Parcheesi-type board game. Results showed that the effects of Machiavellianism in bargaining are stronger than those of equity, that the composition of the group affects the winnings of high…
Geographical Mobility and Machiavellianism
To test the hypothesis that frequency of geographical mobility would be related positively to Machiavellianism the Nachamie Kiddie Mach Scale was administered to a group of 101 high-school students. Total moves made by the respondents' families correlated –.11 with scores on the Mach scale, which did not support the hypothesis. A subsequent analysis of mobility during the first grade did show that respondents who moved were about seven points hig…
Factorial Structure of the Mach v Scale for Chicano and White College Students
121 Mexican-American and 112 white college students filled out Christie's Mach V scale which measures proclivities for interpersonal manipulation and deceit. Analysis of responses indicated that the Mach V factorial structure was more identifiable for the white students than for the Mexican-Americans. It was concluded that of several possible factorial summaries, a three-factor solution afforded the most succinct reduction of the data
Socioeconomic Achievement and the Machiavellian Personality
To test the hypothesis that education moderates the relationship between interpersonal manipulativeness (Machiavellianism) and social attainment, data from a national sample (N = 1482) were reanalyzed. The results indicated that, for men with above-average educations, Machiavellianism is associated with higher levels of occupational prestige and larger incomes. However, for men with below-average educations, Machiavellianism is inversely related …
