  • The Cambridge Handbook on the Economics of Terrorism

Open Access•Atin Basuchoudhary, Tod Sandler et al.•BOOK•The Cambridge Handbook on the…•2026

Since the turn of the century, few issues have shaped political debate and policy-making more than terrorism. As a result, there has been a huge increase in the amount of academic research devoted to investigating the causes and consequences of terrorism. The Cambridge Handbook on the Economics of Terrorism is the first to present a state-of-the art survey of the economics of terrorism. It adopts a rational-choice perspective according to which t…

  • Hollowing out the middle? Remittances, poverty, and income inequality in Nigeria

Open Access•James T Bang, Aniruddha Mitra et al.•ARTICLE•Migration and Development•2022

This paper investigates the impact of remittances on poverty and inequality in Nigeria. In contrast to the existing literature, our methodology of instrumental variable quantile regression (IVQR) explicitly demonstrates the differential marginal impact of remittances for households at different levels of the conditional expenditure distribution. In tracing this heterogeneous impact, we are further able to address the effect of remittances on pove…

Aniruddha Mitra, James Bang et al.•ARTICLE•Feminist Economics•2021•References: 23

The first regards selection bias in which countries experience conflict and its resolution. The study addresses this issue using a generalization of the Heckman procedure. The second is that post-conflict democracy is likely endogenous to the level of pre-conflict democracy. This iss…

  • Field Evaluation of N95 Filtering Facepiece Respirators on Construction Jobsites for Protection against Airborne Ultrafine Particles

Open Access•Atin Adhikari, Aniruddha Mitra et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

Exposure to high concentrations of airborne ultrafine particles in construction jobsites may play an important role in the adverse health effects among construction workers, therefore adequate respiratory protection is required. The performance of particulate respirators has never been evaluated in field conditions against ultrafine particles on construction jobsites. In this study, respiratory protection levels against ultrafine particles of dif…

Methods We perform a feasible generalized least squares estimation of a random effects model on a longitudinal sample of 103 countries taken over the period 1992–2005. • Gender Equality and Economic Growth

    Aniruddha Mitra, James T Bang et al.•ARTICLE•Feminist Economics•2014•Cited by: 8•References: 21

This article explores the impact of gender equality on economic growth. In particular, we focus on the multidimensional nature of gender equality with the object of identifying the relative salience of different aspects of equality. Using exploratory factor analysis on five measures of gender equality, we identify two distinct dimensions: equality of economic opportunities and equality in economic and political outcomes. Regression analysis condu…
