  • Societalized Politics in the German Civil Sphere

    Open Access•Jason L Mast, Daniel Suber•ARTICLE•International Journal of Politics…•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 8

This article introduces a theory of societalized politics to investigate crisis events in the German civil sphere between 2015 and 2024, and to proffer an answer to the disputed question of the preconditions that facilitated the rapid rise of right-wing populism in the German context. Drawing on civil sphere and societalization theory, the article specifies the foundational cultural elements, or binary cultural codes (BCCs), upon which German pol…

  • Retracing Images

    Daniel Suber, Slobodan Karamanić•EDITOR•BOOK•Retracing Images•2012

The essays in this collection disclose cultural and political dynamics as they occurred before and in the wake of Yugoslavia's dissolution (1991-92) by analyzing visual data such as film, art, graffiti, street-art, public advertisement, memorials, and monuments. Within the vast field of Balkan Studies such visual materials have rarely been taken for important empirical evidence. Against the still widely held presumption that the cultural producti…

  • Von Fäusten und Fingern Visuelle politische Kommunikation im gegenwärtigen Serbien

    Daniel Suber•ARTICLE•Soziale Systeme•2012

Open Access•Kay Junge, Daniel Suber et al.•EDITOR•BOOK•Erleben, Erleiden, Erfahren•2008

    Daniel Suber•BOOK•Die Soziologische Kritik der…•2007•Cited by: 3

This volume brings together essays by such eminent scholars like Shmuel N. Eisenstadt, Mary Douglas, Thomas Luckmann, Reinhart Koselleck, and Jan Assmann on the topic of politics and religion. The relationship between religious and cultural visions on the one hand and socio-political structures on the other becomes elaborated from a wide historical and culturalist perspective. • Myth, collective trauma and war in Serbia

    Open Access•Daniel Suber•ARTICLE•Anthropology Matters•1970•References: 7

This paper explores the close relationship between mythical narrative, collective trauma and their repercussions on the Serbian population since the mid-1980s. It is argued that Serbia's particular cultural-historically inherited frame of perception provided a fertile seedbed for Miloševic to successfully launch a policy of re-traumatization and thus establish widespread consent to his war policy among the population. Other cultural factors that …
