  • Associations between patient sociodemographic characteristics and lack of treatment for locally advanced or metastatic urothelial carcinoma

Open Access•Daniel Sloth Hauberg, Mads D Hjortsø et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

We found significant and measurable inequality in access to treatment for mUC. Among other factors, residence in two relatively rural regions was associated with lower probability of receiving systemic anticancer treatment compared to residence in other regions. In addition, marital status and education level had a significant impact on treatment rates

  • Induced Abortion and the Risk of Breast Cancer

Mads Melbye, Jan Wohlfahrt et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Family Planning•1997

  • Does maternal tobacco smoking modify the effect of alcohol on fetal growth

Jesper Olsen, Jorgen H Olsen et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1991•Cited by: 5•References: 5

Smoking and drinking habits were registered by a self-administered questionnaire in 36th week of gestation in 11,698 pregnant women, more than 80 percent of all such women in two Danish cities 1984-87. Alcohol consumption of 120 g/week or more was associated with a greater reduction in the average birthweight in the babies of smokers than of non-smokers (about 40 grams for the non-smokers and about 200 grams for the smokers). This is particularly…

  • Interaction of alcohol and tobacco as risk factors in cancer of the laryngeal region

Jesper Olsen, Jorgen H Olsen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•1985•Cited by: 2•References: 8

The aim of this study is to present risk assessments for the combined effect of alcohol and tobacco in cancer of the larynx. The case control study included all newly diagnosed laryngeal cancer patients under the age of 75 in Denmark during the years 1980-2. Four age and sex matched controls were selected using the municipal person registry in which the case was listed. Ninety six per cent of all cases and 78% of controls participated in the stud…

  • Effect of combined alcohol and tobacco exposure on risk of cancer of the hypopharynx

Jesper Olsen, Jorgen H Olsen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•1985•Cited by: 1•References: 5

The effect of moderate to heavy exposure to alcohol and tobacco on the risk of cancer of the hypopharynx is estimated in a case-control study. All incident hypopharyngeal cancer patients in Denmark who were under 75 years of age were compared with incident cases of laryngeal cancer and population sampled controls. The ascertainment of cases and controls took place during March 1980 to March 1982. Thirty-two patients with cancer of the hypopharynx…

  • Occupational causes of laryngeal cancer

Jesper Olsen, Jorgen H Olsen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•1984•Cited by: 4•References: 11

In a case-control study of all new cases of laryngeal cancer in Denmark from 1980 to 1982, 326 cases and 1134 community selected controls participated. Questionnaires were used to obtain information on education, occupation, and number of occupational exposures as well as smoking and drinking habits. High risk ratios for laryngeal cancer were found for semiskilled and unskilled workers, workers exposed to dust, out of doors workers, drivers, and …

  • Alcohol use, conception time, and birth weight

Jesper Olsen, Jorgen H Olsen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•1983•Cited by: 4•References: 3

Predictors of birth weight and birth length were studied using sociodemographic data collected from 2259 women who resided in Funen County, Denmark, and delivered a healthy child during the period 1978-9 at Odense University Hospital. Low birth weight was significantly related to tobacco use in the year of delivery (p less than 0.01), alcohol use during the same period (p less than 0.05), and a delay in conception of over six months (p less than …
