Verbal and Non-Verbal Measures of Self-Concept among Kindergarten Boys and Girls
The present report describes a comparison of the criterion-related validity of a verbal (sentence-completion test) and of a non-verbal (pictorial) measure of self-concept. Following teacher ratings of 1,042 kindergarten children, high and low self-concept criterion groups were established (25 highest boys and girls and 25 lowest boys and girls). Each child was administered the Quantified Self-concept Inventory (Wattenberg & Clifford, 1962) and a …
Manifest Needs among Rotc and Non-Rotc Undergraduates
Manifest needs of ROTC and non-ROTC undergraduates were studied utilizing the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule (EPPS). It was hypothesized that the ROTC undergraduates would be higher than non-ROTC undergraduates on Order and lower on Autonomy and Aggression. The EPPS was administered to 20 ROTC undergraduates and to a randomly selected sample of 20 male undergraduates at St. John's University in New York City. None of the hypothesized differ…
Inter-Scorer Reliability of Davids' Three Projective Measures of Alienation
Inter-scorer reliability of 3 projective measures of alienation was determined by computing the percentages agreement and Pearsonian correlations between 2 independent scorers. A random sample of high school seniors' protocols of Davids' Word Association and Sentence Completion Tests, and the TAT were rated in accord with Davids' scoring schemes for these measures. For the 3 instruments percentages agreement between scorers ranged from 72% to 92%…
Alienation Syndrome among Catholic Male Undergraduates
Dimensions of Davids' alienation syndrome, egocentricity, distrust, pessimism, anxiety and resentment among Catholic male undergraduates were comparable to those reported for students at a high prestige private university. 30 Ss showed significantly less alienation on a verbal projective and significantly more alienation on a pictoral projective measure. Ss also showed significantly less variability on 4 of the 5 alienation measures than the norm…
Status Level of Occupations Chosen and Rejected by Middle and Lower Class Boys and Girls
The hypothesis that children's occupational choices are superior in status to the occupations they reject was supported by the occupational choices and rejections of 60 middle class boys and 49 girls and 108 lower class boys, but not by those of the 107 lower class girls
