  • Sustainable small-scale fisheries development

Open Access•Krishanthan Gnanapragasam, Shyama Ratnasiri et al.•ARTICLE•Marine Policy•2026

Worldwide, small-scale fisheries face significant challenges due to overfishing, which is more severe in developing countries. This study introduces a novel methodology combining bioeconomic and Driver-Pressure-State-Impact and Response models to assess overfishing using Sri Lanka as a case study. It also provides policy recommendations for sustainable fisheries development. The analysis of 32 years of fish catch and effort data reveals a 130% in…

  • The social licence of salmon aquaculture in Tasmania

Open Access•Andrew Buckwell, Syezlin Hasan et al.•ARTICLE•Marine Policy•2025

Salmon aquaculture is one of a number of industries in Tasmania that can benefit from new technologies to reduce the local ecological and community amenity impacts of its coastal operations. This may assist the industry in retaining its social licence to operate (SLO), which is currently in question, so that it can continue generating benefits for local livelihoods. We used Q-methodology to gain empirical insight into aquaculture stakeholder pers…

  • Challenges and Sensitivities in Assessing Total Ecosystem Service Values

    Open Access•Andrew Buckwell, C M Fleming et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Environment &…•2020

Ecosystem service valuation (ESV) can inform land-use change policy and adaptation responses to climate change in Pacific Small Island Developing States. Despite Small Island Developing States communities relying acutely and directly on ecosystem service (ES) flows, methodologies must contend with limited valuation data and challenges. We undertake ESV to generate coefficients we then apply to mapped habitat extents for Vanuatu. We find the contr…

The official language of Botswana is English, although Setswana is still widely spoken. Christians comprise 72.1% of the population, while 20.6% report …

  • Effects of Communities That Care on Males’ and Females’ Drug Use and Delinquency 9 Years After Baseline in a Community‐Randomized Trial

    Open Access•Sabrina Oesterle, J David Hawkins et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Community…•2015•Cited by: 3•References: 56

UNLABELLED: This study tested sustained effects of the Communities That Care (CTC) prevention system on health-risking behaviors 9 years after baseline in a community-randomized trial involving 24 towns in seven states. Earlier analyses found sustained effects on abstinence from drug use and delinquency through Grade 12 in a panel of fifth graders. At age 19, 91 % (n = 3986) of the living panel completed the survey. Data were analyzed using gener…

  • Public Greenspace and Life Satisfaction in Urban Australia

    Open Access•Christopher L Ambrey, Christopher Ambrey et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•2014•Cited by: 23•References: 68

This paper examines the influence of public greenspace on the life satisfaction of residents of Australia’s capital cities. A positive relationship is found between the percentage of public greenspace in a resident’s local area and their self-reported life satisfaction, on average corresponding to an implicit willingness-to-pay of $1172 in annual household income for a 1 per cent (143 square metres) increase in public greenspace. Additional resul…
