  • Development and Validity Evaluation of a National Digital Entrance Examination Test for Higher Education Student Selection

Open Access•Kirsi Talman, Jonna Vierula et al.•ARTICLE•Higher Education Quarterly•2025

Higher education institutions need to develop valid, fair, and objective selection methods. Current literature reporting the development and validation of new national large‐scale selection tests is scarce. This two‐phased study aimed to (1) develop and (2) evaluate the validity of the Finnish digital Universities of Applied Sciences Entrance Examination (UAS Exam). In phase 1 (years 2018–2019), the UAS exam sections were constructed using scopin…

  • Time Trends in Adolescent School Absences and Associated Bullying Involvement Between 2000 and 2019

Open Access•Katarina Alanko, Katja Melander et al.•ARTICLE•Child Psychiatry & Human…•2023

Education is a central determinant of adolescent health. School absences and bullying involvement jeopardize wellbeing, mental health, and educational attainment. We analyzed time trends in school absenteeism over two decades and examined the association of absenteeism with bullying involvement. We analyzed data from the nationwide School Health Promotion study, with self-reported data from Finnish middle school students in grades 8 and 9 (ages 14…

  • U.S. metropolitan house price dynamics

    Open Access•Elias Oikarinen, Steven C Bourassa et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Urban Economics•2018•Cited by: 3•References: 38

Using data for 70 U.S. metropolitan areas, this study explores spatial heterogeneity in house price dynamics. We use recent advances in panel econometrics that allow for spatial heterogeneity, cross-sectional dependence, and non-stationary but cointegrated data. We test for spatial differences and analyze the relationship between the price elasticity of housing supply and the income elasticity of prices, as well as bubble size and duration. The l…

  • Differences in housing price dynamics across cities

    Open Access•Elias Oikarinen, Janne Engblom•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 34

This study compares a conventionally used panel data model – that does not allow for regional variations in housing price dynamics – with panel models that let the dynamics differ across regions. We concentrate on examining the momentum dynamics and the reversion speed towards the fundamental price level. Based on data over 1988–2012, the results indicate that the regional differences are generally quite small in the Finnish market. Nevertheless,…
