A comparative analysis of mobile phone data and travel surveys in understanding travel behaviour
This study evaluates the comparability of aggregated mobile phone data (MPD) derived from passive network signalling events and traditional travel survey data for urban transport planning, using the province of Liège as a case study. Our analysis demonstrates that while MPD captures a higher density of origin–destination (OD) connections, it cannot fully replicate all flows observed in surveys, underscoring the need for a complementary approach b…
Identifying housing vacancy using data on registered addresses and domestic consumption
Housing vacancy is a significant issue in developed countries’ decaying and densely populated cities. Comparisons are made between the number of ‘vacant housing’ and ‘homeless people’ stressing the existence of inequalities in access to housing. The reasons for addressing vacancy are manifold, ranging from mitigating urban blight to mobilising latent resources in tight markets. Little attention is paid to vacancy in municipal housing strategies. …
A longitudinal analysis of the Covid-19 effects on the variability in human activity spaces in Quito, Ecuador
Factors influencing residential water consumption in Wallonia, Belgium
Applying non-parametric models to explore urban life satisfaction in European cities
Exploring effective micro-level items for evaluating inclusive walking facilities on urban streets (applied in Johor Bahru, Malaysia)
Smart City appropriation by local actors: An instrument in the making
Addressing the determinants of built-up expansion and densification processes at the regional scale
An in-depth understanding of the main factors behind built-up development is a key prerequisite for designing policies dedicated to a more efficient land use. Infill development policies are essential to curb sprawl and allow a progressive recycling of low-density areas inherited from the past. This paper examines the controlling factors of built-up expansion and densification processes in Wallonia (Belgium). Unlike the usual urban/built-up expan…
Coupling agent-based, cellular automata and logistic regression into a hybrid urban expansion model (Huem)
Trends in regional jobs-housing proximity based on the minimum commute: The case of Belgium
Detecting urban road network accessibility problems using taxi GPS data
Integration of inland waterway transport in the intermodal supply chain: A taxonomy of research challenges
The dual role of weather forecasts on changes in activity-travel behavior
Assessing the Impact of Weather on Traffic Intensity
This paper focuses on the effect of weather conditions on daily traffic intensities (the number of cars passing a specific segment of a road). The main objective is to examination whether or not weather conditions uniformly alter daily traffic intensities in Belgium, or in other words whether or not road usage on a particular location determines the size of the impacts of various weather conditions. This general examination is a contribution that…
