The conquest of Egypt by Cambyses is dated to the first months of the year 525 B.C. on the basis of Manetho, of Diodorus, and particularly of the Serapeum stelae of the Apis born on May 29, 525 and of his predecessor, who must have died shortly before or during the days of the Persian conquest. There is no reason to place this event in the time before 525 on account of the apparently retroactive dates (Years 3 and 4 of Cambyses) in Papyrus Ryland…
