    Open Access•David Tabachnick•ARTICLE•American Journal of Economics and…•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 16

This article challenges the claim by many historians that the rise of capitalism requires the destruction of common property systems. In contrast to the English case in which commons were enclosed, French peasants used their common property system to regulate the market, provide a rural safety net and a democratic check on elites, while urban industry developed. • On Oligarchy: Ancient Lessons for Global Politics

David Tabachnick, Toivu Koivukoski et al.•BOOK•On Oligarchy•2011

Economic power is becoming increasingly concentrated in the hands of the few, even as democratic movements worldwide allow for political power to be dispersed among the many. With their access to influence, the wealthy can shape and constrain the political power of the rest of the world. As the economic dominance of an elite minority coincides with the forces of globalization, is oligarchy becoming the dominant political regime?

    Open Access•David Tabachnick, David Edward Tabachnick•ARTICLE•Canadian Journal of Political…•2007•Cited by: 1•References: 19

This paper is an effort to defend Heidegger's essentialist philosophy of technology against the charge of determinism. Rather than merely accepting its all-encompassing power, Heidegger provides three responses to the challenge of technology: 1) “aggressive essentialism” or the elimination of technology; 2) “moderate essentialism” or the reform of political, social and cultural institutions to better reflect the changes that technology brings; an…

This essay identifies a problem with the phronesis revival. Some revivalists argue that phronesis can serve as a response to the homogenizing influence of technology, maintaining the particulars of individuals and communities. However, by their own argument, technology denies the conditions or “educational backdrop” that the development and practice of phronesis requires.Résumé.Cet essai identifie le problème de la renaissance du phronesis.
