Clustering of Social Determinants of Health as an Indicator of Meaningful Subgroups within an African American Population
The findings support the utility of analytically determining meaningful subgroups among a sample of AA people and their social determinants of health. Understanding the differences within an underserved population may contribute to future interventions to eliminate health disparities
Ordinary Parts and Their Complements
Kenoticism and essential divine properties
Traditional Christology maintains that Christ was a single divine person with two natures (human and divine). According to kenotic Christology, certain divine properties such as omniscience and omnipotence were divested in order for Christ to acquire essential human properties. However, such a view appears to conflict with perfect-being theology, which takes omniscience and omnipotence to be essential properties for being divine. I propose a view…
Trauma exposure, PTSD symptoms, and tobacco use
Traumatic stress and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are overrepresented in urban African American communities, and associated with health risk behaviors such as tobacco use. Support and resources provided by churches may reduce trauma-related health risks. In the current study, we assessed weekly church attendance as a moderator of relations between (a) traumatic event exposure and probable PTSD, and (b) probable PTSD and tobacco use. Data …

Conservation, discontinuous time, and causal continuity
William Vallicella poses a dilemma for continuous-creation accounts of conservation, which he attempts to solve by conjoining presentism and four-dimensionalism. I claim that presentist four-dimensionalism fails to appreciate the real problem behind continuous creation and persistence, which is a presumption of the discontinuity of time. I will argue that if we assume that time is discontinuous, then, (1) presentist four-dimensionalism cannot alo…
Recreating Hmong History
This paper examines three different videos about Hmong history that have been created and uploaded onto www.youtube.com by Hmong American students during the past three years. These videos narrate a tale of Hmong history, which mainly revolve around migration and resettlement. This paper examines different aspects of these videos, including images, written text, and oral comments by interpreting visual and vocal narratives
