Revisiting the globalisation-welfare state Nexus
A large amount of literature examines the effects of globalisation on the size of the welfare state. Unlike previous papers, this article studies globalisation’s effects on the quality of social welfare. For this purpose, we use the annual panel dataset of 169 countries from 1970 to 2018. The findings indicate that a higher level of globalisation leads to a higher quality of the welfare state. This evidence is valid when the countries are divided…
Evaluation of the early-stage entrepreneurship activity in the United States during the Covid-19 pandemic
This paper examines the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic (measured by total cases and deaths per 100K people) on the early-stage entrepreneurship activity (measured by the Kauffman Early-Stage Entrepreneurship indicators) in the United States. The empirical analyses are based on the panel dataset of 51 States between 2020 and 2021. The findings show that the COVID-19 pandemic negatively affects early-stage entrepreneurship activity. Further analy…
The Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Consumer Behavior—Evidence From China's Stock Market
The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically reshaped consumers' grocery shopping behavior. Meanwhile, change in consumer shopping behavior might further exert a considerable and far-reaching impact on the food retail industry. Although the existing literature provides investigation on the impact of the pandemic on the retail industry, very few studies discuss the impact of changes in consumer shopping behavior on the stock market performance of the re…
Financial Resources Allocation and Its Economic Impact in Belt and Road Countries
The purpose of this paper is to explore a model of efficient allocation of financial resources in China and other Belt and Road countries to ensure it plays the most effective economic role. In terms of financial resources, this paper uses a fixed effects model to conduct an empirical study of 2006-2019 panel data on the financial resources of Belt and Road countries. The paper finds that the role of financial resources varies from country to cou…

Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic on Elevated Anxiety Symptoms of Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients in China
Recent studies have shown that coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) aggravates anxiety in patients with maintenance hemodialysis (MHD), but it is still unclear how long this adverse effect will last. This study aims to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on the elevated anxiety symptoms of MHD patients 1 year after the outbreak. Assessment of elevated anxiety symptoms was performed on patients with MHD during early COVID-19 (February 17-February 29…
The Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on China's Manufacturing Sector
This paper, based on the notion of Trade in Value Added (TiVA), combines the global trade analysis project (GTAP) model with the value-added model in seeking to simulate and assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on China's manufacturing sector in global value chain (GVC) reconfiguration. The empirical study provides three major results. First, at the macroeconomic level, the pandemic wreaks a negative impact on all the economies, including t…
Employment hysteresis in the United States during the Covid-19 pandemic
In this paper, we test the validity of the employment hysteresis hypothesis. For this purpose, we use daily employment data at the national and state levels in the United States from January 8, 2020, to May 30, 2020. We apply the modified version of the Kapetanios-Shin unit root test, along with finite-sample critical values. We find that the employment hysteresis hypothesis is valid in the United States during the COVID-19 era. The validity of t…
