  • Examining past and projecting future

Open Access•Philippa Higgins, Jonathan Palmer et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2023

Managing water security and sustaining ecosystem functions under future warming poses substantial challenges for semi-arid regions. The Murray–Darling Basin (MDB) is particularly vulnerable given the considerable demand for water that underpins Australia’s agricultural production and contribution to the national economy. Understanding future drought risk requires a robust assessment of natural variability in drought length, frequency, and magnitu…

  • Development and initial qualitative evaluation of a novel school-based nutrition intervention – Cookkit (Cooking Kit for Kids)

Open Access•Simon Pini, William Goodman et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

Results suggest COOKKIT provides engaging and easy to follow in-school resources for children and school staff with take-home kits facilitating continued engagement and reinforcing lessons learned in the home environment. Importantly, participants highlighted the combination of healthy eating information, applied practical skills and low costs could support families to continue following the COOKKIT advice beyond the intervention, suggesting furt…

  • The relationship of atmospheric air temperature and dew point temperature to extreme rainfall

Open Access•Andrew Bui, Fiona Johnson et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2019

To understand the expected changes of extreme rainfalls due to climate change, the sensitivity of rainfall to surface temperature is often calculated. However, as surface temperatures may not be a good indicator of atmospheric moisture, an alternative is to use atmospheric temperatures, but the use of atmospheric temperatures lacks precedent. Using radiosonde atmospheric temperature data at a range of geopotential heights from 34 weather stations…

  • Enabling Better Conversations Between a Man With Aphasia and His Conversation Partner

Open Access•Suzanne Beeke, Fiona Johnson et al.•ARTICLE•Research on Language and Social…•2014•Cited by: 2•References: 2

This article reports an intervention in the conversations between a man with chronic aphasia, Barry, and his wife, Louise (both names are pseudonyms). Preintervention analysis revealed the potential of writing as a resource for turn construction. Intervention consisted of enabling Barry to use writing to produce more complete turns at talk, thereby increasing the likelihood of mutual understanding, and encouraging Louise to modify her responses t…

  • At-Home Environment, Out-of-Home Environment, Snacks and Sweetened Beverages Intake in Preadolescence, Early and Mid-Adolescence

  • Dietary restraint and self-regulation in eating behavior

Open Access•Fiona Johnson, Mercedes Pratt et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Obesity•2012

  • What is an ‘adult protection’ issue? Victims, perpetrators and the professional construction of adult protection issues

    Open Access•Fiona Sherwood‐johnson, Fiona Johnson•ARTICLE•Critical Social Policy•2012•Cited by: 5•References: 15

Drawing on data from a Scottish research study, this paper explores the relationship of professionals’ perceptions about specific perpetrators and victims to their constructions of ‘adult protection’ issues in practice. It finds that professionals’ perceptions of victim distress did not consistently coincide with the construction of adult protection issues, whilst the connection to any assessment of victims’ heightened vulnerability in specific c…

  • Abuse and Protection Issues across the Lifespan

    Open Access•Fiona Sherwood‐johnson, Fiona Johnson et al.•ARTICLE•Social Policy and Society•2010•Cited by: 7•References: 5

The literature is reviewed: (a) comparing models of abuse and protection applied at each stage of the lifespan; and (b) exploring abuse and protection issues with respect to individuals over time. A paucity of comparative and lifespan work in the field of abuse and protection is reported. Within the available literature, different types of knowledge are drawn upon and contrasted definitions of ‘abuse’ and ‘protection’ employed. Accordingly, the m…

  • Dietary Restraint, Body Dissatisfaction, and Psychological Distress

Fiona Johnson, Jon Wardle et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Abnormal Psychology•2005

This study uses prospective data from a survey of 1,177 adolescent girls to examine whether emotional eating, binge eating, abnormal attitudes to eating and weight, low self-esteem, stress, and depression are associated with dietary restraint or body dissatisfaction. In analyses that included both restraint and body dissatisfaction as independent predictors, restraint was associated only with more negative attitudes to eating, whereas body dissat…
