  • River‐Ditch Flow Statistical Relationships in a Traditionally Irrigated Valley Near Taos, New Mexico

    Open Access•Jose J Cruz, Alexander G Fernald et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Contemporary Water…•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 9

Current and predicted drought and population growth challenge the longevity of irrigation systems of northern New Mexico. Irrigation ditches, also known as acequias, draw runoff directly from rivers without use of storage reservoirs, so it is important to understand the effects of changing river flow on irrigation flow. This study sought to examine river‐ditch relationships in an agricultural valley of the region. A first order linear model was u…

  • A Note on the Reliability of Ranked Items

    Open Access•Dawn Vanleeuwen, DAWN M VANLEEUWEN et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Methods & Research•2002•Cited by: 2•References: 12

Instruments may be designed to use either Likert-type items (ratings) or ranks to obtain priority rankings of items. Models commonly used in generalizability theory (GT) provide a basis for assessing the reliability of item measurements based on ratings. However, these commonly used models do not apply when respondents are required to rank a set of items. Unlike ratings, ranks force subject effects to zero. Furthermore, ranks violate independence…

  • Abused Women in New Mexican Shelters

    Open Access•Judith C Hilbert, Raiza Kolia et al.•ARTICLE•Affilia•1997•Cited by: 4•References: 5

The aim of the exploratory study discussed in this article was to distinguish between women who return to shelters and those who become independent from their abusers on discharge (disposition). The women's length of stay in the shelters and the severity of abuse were the strongest predictors, and suicidality and substance abuse were strongly associated with disposition. The findings suggest that cul turally sensitive mental health services and l…
