Hoarding in a material world: The selection and deposition of metalwork in Middle–Late Bronze Age south-east and west Wales
This paper explores the collection and deposition of metalwork in south-east and west Wales from c. 1550–800 BC. Utilising a comprehensive database of over 1400 metal objects, this paper examines the deliberate selection of ornaments, weapons, axes and objects associated with the production of metalwork of this period, highlighting regional and chronological patterns in the flow of metalwork being buried within hoards and as single finds. In addi…
Axes to Axes: The Chronology, Distribution and Composition of Recent Bronze Age Hoards from Britain and Northern Ireland
This study explores the impact that recent Bronze Age hoard finds have had on our understanding of hoarding practices across Britain and Northern Ireland. Changes to the legislation of Treasure and the onset of the Portable Antiquities Scheme in England and Wales have produced a wealth of new information on Bronze Age hoards. Beyond a handful of studies which have focused on specific groups of hoards or the distinction between dryland/wetland dep…

Iron Age Enclosed Settlements in West Wales
This paper presents the results of several years' research on late Iron Age enclosed settlements in west Wales. Geophysical survey was conducted on 21 sites and three of these, Troedyrhiw, Ffynnonwen, and Berry Hill, were part-excavated. Most sites examined were heavily plough-damaged, but results of the surveys and excavations demonstrated that substantial archaeological remains survive. Approximately 60 enclosed settlements lay in the core stud…
A Late Prehistoric Timber Alignment in the Waveney Valley, Suffolk: Excavations at Barsham Marshes
This paper describes the results of excavations and associated palaeoenvironmental analyses at Barsham Marshes, Suffolk, England. The site is a triple post alignment of oak stakes built at the edge of a palaeochannel of the River Waveney. The alignment has been traced for over 30 m but neither terminus of the site has been excavated. Dendrochronological dating of the timbers has produced a range of felling dates between 8 BC and AD 8 indicating a…
