Electron spin resonance (ESR) and thermal ionization mass spectrometric (Tims) 230 Th/ 234 U dating of teeth in Middle Paleolithic layers at Amud Cave, Israel
Electron spin resonance (ESR) dating and thermal ionization mass spectrometric 230 Th/ 234 U dating was conducted on six teeth from the prehistoric site of Amud Cave. By combining the ESR and 230 Th/ 234 U analyses, we obtained burial ages for teeth in various layers of the site. Layer B 1 /6–7, from which the Amud I Neanderthal skeleton was recovered, is dated to 53 ± 8 ka. Layer B 2 /8, which yielded other important human remains including the …
Globalization and the emerging welfare state — the experience of South Korea
This paper explores the experience of South Korea (hereafter referred to as Korea) as a testing ground for the prospects of the contemporary welfare state as affected by globalization. Korea is known as one of the most successful cases of intentional economic growth. Over three and a half decades, from 1961 to 1996, it grew from a war‐torn wreck to become the world’s 11th largest economy, with a per capita gross domestic product exceeding US$10,0…
ESR dating of Mousterian levels at El Castillo Cave, Cantabria, Spain
The Upper Palaeolithic Site of Ciuntu on the Middle Pruth, Moldova
The Ciuntu rockshelter is situated in the north-western part of the Republic of Moldova, on the left bank of the river Pruth. It has a single Upper Palaeolithic layer of occupation, which was originally regarded as Early Upper Palaeolithic and was assigned to the Brinzeni archaeological culture. More recent investigations, including radiocarbon dating, have led to a revision of this suggested age and classification. The site is now regarded as be…
