  • A quadrangular axe made of banded flint from Berezka, Solina Commune, Lesko district, Podkarpackie Voivodeship

Open Access•Barbara Sałacińska, ławomir Sałaciński et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Archaeologica Carpathica•2025

The quadrangular, fully polished axe, made of banded flint, from Berezka, Solina Commune, Lesko district, bears a resemblance in shape, manufacturing technique, and material to axes associated with the Globular Amphora culture. It was discovered accidentally as a loose find. No other finds from this culture were recorded in its vicinity. It represents evidence of the penetration of the Globular Amphora culture population, or it could have been pr…

  • A contribution to research on the knapped lithic assemblage from the Late Neolithic site of Altheim in Lower Bavaria

    Open Access•Andrzej Pelisiak, Thomas Saile et al.•ARTICLE•Sprawozdania Archeologiczne•2024•References: 9

The lithic artefacts from Altheim, being regarded as essential for the interpretation of the site, have for a verylong time attracted attention. Here we concentrate on the discoveries made during the excavation of sections of ditches in 2013-2020. Certain earlier observations were confirmed by the latest excavations, namely the high proportion of arrowheads among the flaked stone tools. A large number of the arrowheads were burnt. Many of them ha…

  • Chipped lithic artefacts from Paradimi and Krovili (Thrace, Northern Greece). Remarks from the 2020 surface investigations

    Open Access•Andrzej Pelisiak, Dusanka Urem-Kotsou et al.•ARTICLE•Sprawozdania Archeologiczne•2023

The paper presents flaked lithic materials from two tell-type Neolithic sites Paradimi and Krovili located in Eastern Thrace. They were obtained during systematic and detailed surface surveys. All the collected lithic materials were examined and described. Some conclusions about processing and sources of raw materials were presented along with comparisons to other Neolithic sites in northern Greece.

    Open Access•Andrzej Pelisiak•ARTICLE•Archaeologia Polona•2022

The Neolithic and Bronze Age communities that settled the eastern Carpathian Forelands and Carpathian Foothills used a variety of local and non-local siliceous raw materials. Raw materials identified in the archaeological record differ in quality and usefulness for making tools. Obsidian, Jurassic flint from the Cracow-Częstochowa Upland, chocolate flint, or Świeciechów and Volhynian flints represent the best quality. On the other hand, some loca…

  • A specific obsidian workplace at the Malice culture settlement in Kraczkowa 31, Podkarpackie Voivodship (southeastern Poland)

    Open Access•Maciej Dębiec, Andrzej Pelisiak•ARTICLE•Sprawozdania Archeologiczne•2022•Cited by: 2

This paper presents a chipped assemblage from the Malice culture settlement in Kraczkowa 31. Obsidian artefacts dominate in this inventory. The typological structure of obsidian items (small numbers of cores, flakes and blades, and numerous various chips) indicates the existence of a specific workshop where processing of this material occurred

  • Settlements and economy of the Funnel Beaker Culture communities. Archaeological and palynological evidence from the annually laminated lake bottom sediments (Gostynin Lake District, central Poland)

    Open Access•Andrzej Pelisiak, Małgorzata Rybicka•ARTICLE•Sprawozdania Archeologiczne•2021

Palynological information preserved in pollen diagrams is of key importance for investigating prehistoric human activity. According to M. Ralska-Jasiewiczowa, of particular importance for assessing anthropopressure are results of the multidisciplinary research of annually laminated lake sediments carried out in Lake Gościąż and its surroundings in the Gostynin Lake District. In light of the results of human-environment analyses, the environmental…

  • Late Neolithic and Bronze Age finds from the High Bieszczady Mountains. Discoveries from 2017-2019

    Open Access•Andrzej Pelisiak•ARTICLE•Acta Archaeologica Carpathica•2021

By 2019 more than 70 sites had been discovered in the area of the High Bieszczady Mountains, most of them located within the Połonina Wetlińska massif. The sites discovered in 2017-2019 constitute two groups: sites represented by (1) single artefacts (Wetlina 56, 57, 58, 59, 61, 63, 64, 65, Bukowska Pass, site 1) and (2) small series of artefacts (Wetlina 54, 55, 60, 62). Both groups include artefacts datable to the Late Neolithic and the Bronze …

Neolithic and Early Bronze Age communities which settled the eastern Carpathians Forelands and Carpathian Foothills used a variety of local and non-local siliceous raw materials.
