La discapacidad, entendida como la consideración de una persona con invalidez por parte de su comunidad, constituye un nuevo campo de investigación en Ar queología y Antropología Física. Aquí se investiga este concepto en el marco de la cultura de El Argar. • An example of a severe neck injury with survival seen in a Bronze Age burial

    Open Access•A Jiménez‐brobeil, S A Jiménez‐Brobeil et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2011•Cited by: 2•References: 16

We present a paleopathological analysis of an adult male from the Bronze Age site of Motilla del Azuer (Daimiel, Ciudad Real) from the Spanish region of La Mancha. The hyoid bone from this individual exhibits a healed fracture. This is an exceptional archaeological find. This injury is extremely rare apart from hanging and strangulation, and it is even rarer since the individual survived this injury to his neck. This injury was probably produced …

  • Some types of vertebral pathologies in the Argar Culture (Bronze Age, SE Spain)

    Open Access•A Jiménez‐brobeil, S A Jiménez‐Brobeil et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2010•Cited by: 4•References: 11

A collection of 1825 vertebrae belonging to 105 individuals from several Argaric Culture sites (Bronze Age, SE of Spain) were studied. Several pathologies that could provide information about activity patterns were analysed, including spondylolysis, compression fractures and Schmorl's nodes. Spondylolysis appears exclusively in men. Compression fractures seem to be more related to age (osteoporosis) and are more frequent in women, but without sta…

  • Possible relationship of cranial traumatic injuries with violence in the south‐east Iberian Peninsula from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age

    Open Access•A Jiménez‐brobeil, S A Jiménez‐Brobeil et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2009•Cited by: 19•References: 10

The main aim of this study was to analyze the presence and distribution of cranial trauma, as possible evidence of violence, in remains from the Neolithic to Bronze Age from the SE Iberian Peninsula. The sample contains skulls, crania, and cranial vaults belonging to 410 prehistoric individuals. We also studied 267 crania from medieval and modern times for comparative purposes. All lesions in the prehistoric crania are healed and none of them can…

  • Childhood trauma in several populations from the Iberian Peninsula

    Open Access•A Jiménez‐brobeil, S A Jiménez‐Brobeil et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2007•Cited by: 3•References: 5

A study was conducted on a collection of 123 juvenile skeletons from various sites dating to the Bronze Age (Argar culture) and from the medieval cemeteries of La Torrecilla, Villanueva de Soportilla and San Baudelio, all in the Iberian Peninsula. No cranial trauma was observed. However, four postcranial fractures were found, including three from Castellón Alto, a typical Argaric village of some urban complexity built on steep terraces in high an…
