  • Cardiovascular Outcomes among Combustible-Tobacco and Electronic Nicotine Delivery System (ENDS) Users in Waves 1 through 5 of the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (Path) Study, 2013–2019

Open Access•Martin C Mahoney, Cheryl Rivard et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

This study found no difference in CVD incidence by tobacco status over three 3 year intervals, even for tobacco quitters. It is possible that additional waves of PATH Study data, combined with information from other large longitudinal cohorts with careful tracking of ENDS use patterns may help to further clarify this relationship

  • Electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) flavours and devices used by adults before and after the 2020 US FDA ENDS enforcement priority

Open Access•Shannon Gravely, Gang Meng et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2022

Between 2018 and the early phase of the FDA's 2020 enforcement priority, prevalence of menthol/mint and fruit/other-flavoured cartridges increased among adults. Half of vapers using cartridge flavours covered in the enforcement switched to other flavours and/or devices that were exempt, with the exception of disposables. The extent to which more comprehensive restrictions may be problematic for adults who prefer a range of ENDS flavours remains u…

  • Cardiovascular Risk Factor and Disease Measures from the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (Path) Study

Open Access•Martin C Mahoney, Cheryl Rivard et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

These analyses suggest reliability and concurrent validity regarding self-reported cardiovascular risk factors and disease assessed in the PATH Study

  • Home Tobacco Use Policies and Exposure to Secondhand Tobacco Smoke

Open Access•Cheryl Rivard, Anthony Brown et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Most US adults have implemented tobacco-free home policies; however, there is still exposure to SHS in the home, for both adults and children, particularly in the homes of tobacco users. Additional research should investigate tobacco-free home policies for different types of products and what effect they have on future tobacco use behaviors

  • Dosing parameters for the effects of high-frequency transcranial magnetic stimulation on smoking cessation

Open Access•Ellen Carl, Amylynn Liskiewicz et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2020

Clinical Trials NCT03865472 (retrospectively registered). The first participant was fully enrolled on November 26, 2018. Registration was posted on March 7, 2019

  • Biomarkers of Exposure among USA Adult Hookah Users

Open Access•Mark J Travers, Cheryl Rivard et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Hookah smoking has become common in the USA, especially among young adults. This study measured biomarkers of exposure to known tobacco product toxicants in a population-based sample of exclusive, established hookah users. Urinary biomarker data from 1753 adults in Wave 1 of the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Study were used to compare geometric mean concentrations of biomarkers of exposure in exclusive, established past 30-da…

  • Associations between lifetime tobacco exposure with infertility and age at natural menopause

Andrew Hyland, Kenneth M Piazza et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2015

Active smoking and SHS exposure are associated with increased risk of infertility and natural menopause occurring before the age of 50 years

  • Associations of lifetime active and passive smoking with spontaneous abortion, stillbirth and tubal ectopic pregnancy

Andrew Hyland, Kenneth M Piazza et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2014

Women who were ever-smokers during their reproductive years had significantly greater estimates of risk for spontaneous abortion, stillbirth and tubal ectopic pregnancy. Never-smoking women with the highest levels of lifetime exposure to SHS had significantly increased estimates of risk for spontaneous abortion, stillbirth and tubal ectopic pregnancy

  • Taxing sugar-sweetened beverages

Open Access•Cheryl Rivard, Danielle Smith et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2012

Objective To assess current beverage consumption patterns and anticipated reaction to an added 20 % tax on these products. Design A random-digit dialled telephone interview lasting 20 min was administered to assess demographics, beverage consumption behaviours and intentions regarding consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages in the event of an additional tax on these beverages. Setting Respondents were recruited throughout the USA. Subjects The s…

  • Attitudes, Experiences, and Acceptance of Smoke-Free Policies Among US Multiunit Housing Residents

Andrea S Licht, Brian A King et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2012•Cited by: 3•References: 12

We assessed factors related to smoke-free policies among a cross-sectional, nationally representative, random-digit-dial sample (landline and cell phone) of US multiunit housing residents (n = 418). Overall, 29% reported living in smoke-free buildings, while 79% reported voluntary smoke-free home rules. Among those with smoke-free home rules, 44% reported secondhand smoke incursions in their unit. Among all respondents, 56% supported smoke-free b…

  • Usage Patterns of Stop Smoking Medications in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States

Open Access•Brian V Fix, Andrew Hyland et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2011

Varenicline is a new prescription stop smoking medication (SSM) that has been available in the United States since August 1, 2006, in the United Kingdom and other European Union countries since December 5, 2006, in Canada since April 12, 2007, and in Australia since January 1, 2008. There are few population-based studies that have examined use rates of varenicline and other stop smoking medications. We report data from the ITC Four Country survey…
