  • Do global health networks facilitate innovation, learning and sharing? A qualitative analysis of the Quality-of-Care Network in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Malawi, and Uganda

Open Access•Kondwani Mwandira, Seblewengel Lemma et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2025

The Quality-of-Care Network (QCN), launched by WHO and partners, links global and national actors across several countries to improve maternal and newborn health. We conducted a prospective qualitative study to examine how QCN in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Malawi and Uganda facilitated learning, sharing, and innovation within and between network countries. We conducted 227 key informant interviews with QCN actors at global, national, and facility leve…

  • How Does Experience of Violence in Childhood Affect Work Outcomes? A Systematic Review of Longitudinal Studies

Open Access•Clare Tanton, Jodie Pearlman et al.•ARTICLE•Trauma Violence & Abuse•2025

Experiencing violence in childhood and adolescence is both common and long-lasting, and associated with poor short- and long-term health and economic outcomes. In the current study, we reviewed evidence from longitudinal studies on the association between violence in childhood and work outcomes to determine the direction and magnitude of the association, explore variations by violence type, identify evidence gaps, and describe the extent of resea…

  • How to evaluate a multi-country implementation-focused network

Open Access•Gloria Seruwagi, Mike English et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2024

Learning about how to evaluate implementation-focused networks is important as they become more commonly used. This research evaluated the emergence, legitimacy and effectiveness of a multi-country Quality of Care Network (QCN) aiming to improve maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) outcomes. We examined the QCN global level, national and local level interfaces in four case study countries. This paper presents the evaluation team’s reflection…

  • Effectiveness of a multi-country implementation-focused network on quality of care

Open Access•Nehla Djellouli, Yusra Ribhi Shawar et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2024

The Network for Improving Quality of Care for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (QCN) aims to work through learning, action, leadership and accountability. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of QCN in these four areas at the global level and in four QCN countries: Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Malawi and Uganda. This mixed method evaluation comprised 2–4 iterative rounds of data collection between 2019–2022, involving stakeholder interviews, hospita…

  • Influences on policy-formulation, decision-making, organisation and management for maternal, newborn and child health in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Malawi and Uganda

Open Access•Kohenour Akter, Yusra Ribhi Shawar et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2023

The Network for Improving Quality of Care for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (QCN) is intended to facilitate learning, action, leadership and accountability for improving quality of care in member countries. This requires legitimacy—a network’s right to exert power within national contexts. This is reflected, for example, in a government’s buy-in and perceived ownership of the work of the network. During 2019–2022 we conducted iterative round…

  • Individual interactions in a multi-country implementation-focused quality of care network for maternal, newborn and child health

Open Access•Fidele Kanyimbu Mukinda, Nehla Djellouli et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2023

The Network for Improving Quality of Care for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (QCN) was established to build a cross-country platform for joint-learning around quality improvement implementation approaches to reduce mortality. This paper describes and explores the structure of the QCN in four countries and at global level. Using Social Network Analysis (SNA), this cross-sectional study maps the QCN networks at global level and in four countrie…

  • The Epidemiology of Young People’s Work and Experiences of Violence in Nine Countries

Open Access•Amiya Bhatia, Maryam Parvez et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Globally, 497 million young people (15-24 years) are in the labour force. The current research on work and violence indicates reciprocal links across the life course. This study draws on data from 35,723 young people aged 13-24 years in the Violence Against Children Surveys (VACS) in nine countries to describe the epidemiology of work in order to explore associations between (1) current work and violence and (2) childhood violence and work in a h…

  • Paper

Open Access•Lajos Ki, Ligia Kiss et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

Our findings suggest that interventions to prevent or mitigate the negative impact of adverse childhood experiences can contribute to preventing the trafficking of adolescents in Nigeria and Uganda. These interventions include social protection mechanisms, universal access to education, social service referrals and education of parents and carers. Importantly, effective prevention also needs to address the systemic conditions that makes trafficki…

  • A qualitative insight into children’s and care-givers’ experience following re-integration from Uganda’s residential care facilities into family-based care

Open Access•Eddy Walakira, Aloysious Nnyombi et al.•ARTICLE•Global Studies of Childhood•2022•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 1

This article aims to elevate children’s and caretakers’ voices in shaping reunification and reintegration planning and implementation. It takes into consideration, the priority for children to experience fulfilling and happy childhoods following reunification from residential care facilities (RCFs) to homebased care (HBC). The article is based on 23 children who were followed up, 12 months post reunification from RCFs into HBC in six districts wi…
