  • Implementation of the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Benefit is Associated with Antiretroviral Therapy Interruptions

    Open Access•Moupali Das-Douglas, Elise D Riley et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS and Behavior•2008

  • Measuring Adherence to Antiretroviral Therapy in a Diverse Population Using a Visual Analogue Scale

Thomas P Giordano, Diego Guzmán et al.•ARTICLE•HIV Clinical Trials•2004

PURPOSE: To examine the performance of an instrument to assess adherence based on a visual analogue scale, compared to an instrument based on 3-day recall, using unannounced pill counts in the place of residence as the gold standard. METHOD: We prospectively assessed adherence to antiretroviral therapy in 84 marginally housed indigent HIV-infected patients who were receiving stable antiretroviral therapy in San Francisco, California, with three a…

  • HIV Seroprevalence Among Homeless and Marginally Housed Adults in San Francisco

Marjorie J Robertson, Richard A Clark et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2004•Cited by: 20•References: 54

Objectives. We report HIV seroprevalence and risk factors for urban indigent adults. Methods. A total of 2508 adults from shelters, meal programs, and low-cost hotels received interviews, blood tests, and tuberculosis screening. Results. Seroprevalence was 10.5% overall, 29.6% for men reporting sex with men (MSM), 7.7% for non-MSM injection drug users (IDUs), and 5.0% for residual non-MSM/non-IDUs. Risk factors were identified for MSM (sex trade …

    Open Access•Elise D Riley, David R Bangsberg et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2003

  • Validity and responsiveness of the EuroQol as a measure of health-related quality of life in people enrolled in an Aids clinical trial

    Open Access•Albert W Wu, Denise L Jacobson et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2002

  • Emergency Department Use Among the Homeless and Marginally Housed

Margot Kushel, Margot B Kushel et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2002•Cited by: 58•References: 26

Objectives. This study examined factors associated with emergency department use among homeless and marginally housed persons. Methods. Interviews were conducted with 2578 homeless and marginally housed persons, and factors associated with different patterns of emergency department use were assessed in multivariate models. Results. Findings showed that 40.4% of respondents had 1 or more emergency department encounters in the previous year; 7.9% e…

  • Non-adherence to highly active antiretroviral therapy predicts progression to Aids

David R Bangsberg, Sharon Perry et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS•2001

The introduction of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has produced a dramatic reduction in mortality among HIV-infected individuals [1–4]. Whereas the level of adherence to HAART is closely associated with suppression of the HIV viral load in plasma [5–14], a relationship between adherence and disease progression has not been established. Here we examine the relationship between pill-count adherence [10] and progression to AIDS, in a r…
