  • Is accelerated postnatal growth associated with blood pressure in childhood

Neil M Davies, K Tilling et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2009

Objective: To investigate whether variations in growth patterns in early-life are associated with blood pressure at age 6.5 years by modelling detailed, individual growth trajectories between birth and 5 years of age. Design: Prospective cohort study nested in a large randomised trial. Setting: Belarus. Participants: 10 494 children from Belarus who were born in one of 31 hospitals that participated in a cluster randomised trial of breastfeeding …

  • The decline in Rh hemolytic disease

    K S Joseph, M S Kramer•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1998•Cited by: 1•References: 14

OBJECTIVES: This study sought to quantify the magnitude of Rh disease reduction occurring secondary to Rh prophylaxis and other determinants. METHODS: Outcomes considered included maternal Rh sensitization, neonatal Rh disease, and perinatal deaths from Rh disease. Analysis was based on Poisson regression modeling of ecological data from Manitoba, Canada, and conditional probability modeling. RESULTS: The ecological analysis showed that changes i…

  • Child fostering, health and nutritional status

Philippe Sudre, Mary K Serdula et al.•ARTICLE•Ecology of Food and Nutrition•1990

In developing countries, as women increasingly engage in economic activity away from home, foster care of children appears to have become more common. Because fostered children may receive less attention, it has been hypothesized that fostering may adversely affect nutritional status and health. A nutrition survey conducted in 1983 in rural Swaziland on 4683 children < 6 years of age allowed an examination of fostering practices and their associa…

  • Does participation in prenatal courses lead to heavier babies

    Yves Robitaille, M S Kramer•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1985•Cited by: 2•References: 14

In a prospective epidemiologic survey of 1,676 primiparous women delivering in four Montreal hospitals during an eight-month period, we studied the impact of prenatal courses on birthweight, maternal weight gain, and cigarette smoking. Women who participated in prenatal courses were older and of higher socioeconomic status and were less likely to be smokers than non-participants. After adjustment for these differences, newborns of course particip…
