    The association of passive smoking and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality was assessed in a cohort of 513 rural, married Black and White women who were disease-free and self-described as never-smokers at baseline in 1960. Over a 20-year period, 76 of 147 total deaths were attributed to CVD.
