  • Nitrate in community water supplies and incidence of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in Sardinia, Italy

Pierluigi Cocco, G Broccia et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2003•References: 4

Studies of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) evaluating risk associated with nitrate concentrations in community water supplies have found inconsistent results.1–4 To further explore this hypothesis, we compared the NHL incidence in 1974–1993 with nitrate monitoring data from 1971–1994 available for 75% (282 of 376) of the communes (administrative units) in Sardinia, Italy. We selected the 153 communes with at least one nitrate measurement in 1993 or …

  • Intake of tapwater and total water by pregnant and lactating women

    Abby G Ershow, L M Brown et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1991•Cited by: 1•References: 4

BACKGROUND. Despite theoretically higher requirements for water due to physiologic demands of pregnancy and lactation, little is known of actual ranges of intake in pregnant and lactating women. METHODS. Population-based estimates of total water and tapwater intake in women of reproductive age were derived using data from the 1977-78 USDA Nationwide Food Consumption Survey. Three-day average intakes were calculated for 188 pregnant women, 77 lact…

  • Hair dye use and risk of leukemia and lymphoma

    K P Cantor, A Blair et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1988•Cited by: 2•References: 9

Data from a population-based case-control study of incident leukemia and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma among adult men in Iowa and Minnesota were used to evaluate risk associated with hair dye use. The relative risk for ever using hair dyes was 1.8 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.1-2.7) among leukemia patients, and 2.0 (CI = 1.3-3.0) among cases with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. There was a suggestion of increased risk with extent of hair dye use. Given th…
