Learning whom not to trust across early and middle adolescence
Longitudinal changes in trusting behavior across adolescence and their neural correlates were examined. Neural regions of interest (ROIs) included the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), dorsal anterior cingulate cortex (dACC), left anterior insula (AI), bilateral ventral striatum (VS), and right dorsal striatum (DS). Participants (wave 1 age: M = 12.90) played the investor in a Trust Game with an uncooperative trustee three times (1-year interval).…
Risk factors for self-reported uterine fibroids
To identify risk factors for uterine fibroids, a case-control design used to analyze data from control subjects enrolled in the Cancer and Steroid Hormone Study. Case patients were 201 women who reported a history of uterine fibroids, and control subjects were 1503 women without fibroids, individually matched by age to case patients. Reporting of fibroids was more frequent among premenopausal women, women who had frequent Papanicolaou (Pap) smear…
Tubal sterilization in women 15-24 years of age
Between 1970-1980, approximately 942,000 women 15-24 years of age underwent tubal sterilization in the United States. These women represented about 17 per cent of all women ages 15-44 years who underwent tubal sterilization in the United States during this 11-year period. During 1970-1980, sterilization rates rose steadily from three per 1,000 to 11 per 1,000 for women in the 20- to 24-year age group, but remained stable at less than one per 1,00…
Third-trimester induced abortion in Georgia, 1979 and 1980
We reviewed 86 third-trimester induced abortions reported to the Georgia Department of Human Resources in 1979 and 1980. Only three of the 78 with adequate data were classified correctly. Fetal deaths in utero accounted for 67.4 per cent of reported cases and first- or second-trimester abortions 18.6 per cent. The true rate of induced abortions performed in the third trimester was 4.3 per 100,000 legal abortions. Diagnosed anencephaly accounted f…
