Temporal and spatial drivers of Lyme disease hazard differ between urban and rural environments
60 urban greenspaces and 48 rural woodlands were surveyed across the UK. • Nymphal ticks were detected in 73% of urban greenspaces and 98% of rural woodlands. • Urban nymph density & Lyme hazard linked to tree cover, connectivity & urbanisation. • Woodland age was the strongest predictor of rural nymph density and Lyme hazard. Our ability to predict how urban planning may influence public health and wellbeing is limited, because our understanding…
Tracing prehistoric pastoral occupation in Dhofar
New multidisciplinary data on Middle Holocene pastoralism in Dhofar, Oman. • Radiocarbon modelling shows site use from ∼ 4950 to 1000 BCE. • Well-preserved faunal assemblage reveals cattle and caprine exploitation. • Evidence for on-site butchery, marrow extraction, and meat processing. • Peak occupation intensity identified between ∼ 4200–2450 BCE. The prehistoric occupation of Dhofar, Southern Oman, was facilitated by the Indian Summer Monsoon,…
Navigating Violence
This qualitative study explores the lived experiences of intimate partner violence (IPV) among 2SLGBTQ+ women in Saskatchewan. Despite Canada's progressive framework, participants reported high IPV rates, compounded by unique barriers such as stigma, lack of tailored services, and challenges in rural settings. Emotional violence was most prevalent, with additional risks linked to sexual identity disclosure and community isolation. Social support …

Factors influencing undernutrition among children under 5 years from cocoa-growing communities in Bougainville
Half the children under the age of 5 years in Papua New Guinea (PNG) are undernourished, more than double the global average with rural areas disproportionately affected. This study examines factors associated with stunting, wasting and underweight in cocoa growers’ children (
Factors influencing sedentary behaviours after stroke
Many stroke survivors indicate being open to reducing sedentary behaviour, with appropriate support from stroke service staff and caregivers. The findings from this study have contributed to an intervention development process using the Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW) approach to develop strategies to reduce sedentary behaviour after stroke
Achieving Triple Aim Outcomes
The Texas Medicaid Waiver, via the Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP) program, has provided a path for Texas to achieve the Triple Aim through its focus on a defined population at the project and system levels, and financial payment policy based on outcomes. Both iterations of the DSRIP program (Waiver 1.0 and 2.0) have helped define populations, created regional collaboration that sets the stage for a true integrator, and provided …
Supporting carers of stroke survivors to reduce carer burden
We have developed a comprehensive programme plan for a multiple-component, theory and evidence informed behaviour change intervention aimed at preparing carers before and during the transition from hospital to home. Future work is required to refine, implement and evaluate the Preparing is Caring intervention
Distributional learning aids linguistic category formation in school-age children
The goal of this study was to determine if typically developing children could form grammatical categories from distributional information alone. Twenty-seven children aged six to nine listened to an artificial grammar which contained strategic gaps in its distribution. At test, we compared how children rated novel sentences that fit the grammar to sentences that were ungrammatical. Sentences could be distinguished only through the formation of c…
Development of interventions for language impairment
Although theories of specific language impairment grounded in Universal Grammar (UG) have advanced the description of SLI considerably, they provide limited utility as far as treatment is concerned. Because UG assumes deficits in language principles and parameter setting, remediation of the difficulty is not possible; rather, reliance on compensatory mechanisms is recommended. Compensatory mechanisms rely on the same learning principles as are ad…
A Randomized Trial of a Hepatitis Care Coordination Model in Methadone Maintenance Treatment
Objectives. We evaluated the efficacy of a hepatitis care coordination intervention to improve linkage to hepatitis A virus (HAV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccination and clinical evaluation of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection among methadone maintenance patients. Methods. We conducted a randomized controlled trial of 489 participants from methadone maintenance treatment programs in San Francisco, California, and New York City from February 2…
