OBJECTIVE: To study measles risk after revaccination. DESIGN: A population-based case-control study during an epidemic season. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: Relative serologically confirmed measles risk. • Low-level air pollution and upper respiratory infections in children

    Jouni J K Jaakkola, J J Jaakkola et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1991•Cited by: 7

Effects of low-level air pollution were studied in one polluted city and two reference cities in northern Finland by comparing the frequency of upper respiratory infections over a 12-month period in 1982 as reported by parents of children ages 14 through 18 months (n = 679) and 6 years (n = 759). A similar comparison was carried out between children living in the more polluted and less polluted areas of the polluted city. The annual mean and the …

P Kyyrönen, Helena Taskinen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•1989•References: 10

STUDY OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to determine whether exposure to tetrachloroethylene during the first trimester of pregnancy has harmful effects on pregnancy outcome. DESIGN: The study used record linkage identification of cases and case-control comparison. SETTING: The study involved dry cleaner and laundry workers throughout Finland who had become pregnant during the study period. Controls were age matched but otherwise unselected wom…

  • Atopy, smoking, and chronic bronchitis

    E O Terho, Kaj Husman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•1987•Cited by: 2•References: 4

The aim was to test the hypothesis that atopy increases the occurrence of chronic bronchitis. Relations between atopy, smoking, and chronic bronchitis were studied in farmers. The data were from two successive postal surveys and a skin prick tested subsample. The cross-sectional study consisted of 9017 farmers. Those 6899 farmers who did not have chronic bronchitis at the beginning and who continued farming were followed for three years. A sample…

  • Risk indicators of reduction limb defects

    Tuija Aro, O P Heinonen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•1983•Cited by: 1•References: 13

The birth of a child with a reduction limb defect (RLD) was evaluated in relation to vaginal bleeding, threatened abortion, and other complications of pregnancy, placental weight, birth weight, family history, parental age, and the outcome of previous pregnancies. The material consisted of 453 cases of reduction limb defect and an equal number of non-malformed controls matched for time and place. The children were born in Finland during 1964-77. …
