  • Influence of Vegetation Type and Park Age on Soil Dissolved Organic Matter Composition in Subtropical Urban Parks

Open Access•Guanjun Li, Qianru Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2026

The chemical characteristics of dissolved organic matter (DOM) play a key role in soil nutrient cycling and carbon sequestration. However, the effects of different vegetation types and park ages on soil DOM in urban ecosystems remain poorly understood. This study assessed the influence of two vegetation types, lawn and integrated tree‐turf systems, on the chemical characteristics of soil DOM across three park age groups (young: 5–10 years, interm…

  • Mahonia bealei (Fort.) Carr. Leaf extract modulates the TLR2/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway to inhibit PGN-induced inflammation in RAW264.7 cells

Open Access•Liang Wei, Wenjun Ma et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2025

The present study showed that MBE effectively inhibited PGN-induced inflammation and ameliorated cell injury in RAW264.7 cells. This may be attributed to its inhibition of the TLR/MyD88/NF-κB pathway, which further regulates the release of downstream related inflammatory factors and exerts anti-inflammatory effects. These findings also suggest the potential of M. bealei as a natural drug for the treatment of inflammation-related diseases

  • Labile carbon content and nutrient availability determines microbial composition in topsoil and subsoil following land‐use change in subtropical China

Open Access•Huacui Xiao, Hao Sheng et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2024

Evaluating the impact of land‐use intensification on soil microbial communities is essential for recognizing the implications on microbiome stability and ecosystem function. The microbial biomass and enzyme activity in the topsoil have been found to decrease as a consequence of natural forest conversion; however, the impact of land‐use conversion on the microbes in subsoil remains largely unclear. Here, we examined the effect of primary forest co…

  • Prevalence and correlates of meeting 24-hour movement guidelines and its associations with physical fitness and depressive symptoms among adults

Open Access•Yanping Duan, Duan Yanping et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

The findings of this study indicate the need to promote adherence to all movement guidelines among Chinese adults. Future promoting strategies to meet movement guidelines should emphasize the demographic differences of the targeting population, especially age, marital status, and accessibility of PA facilities. Future interventions should be applied to affirm the effects of compliance with overall 24-hour movement guidelines to mitigate depressiv…

  • Characteristics of Internal Ammonium Loading from Long-Term Polluted Sediments by Rural Domestic Wastewater

Open Access•Xiang Luo, Yungui Li et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

Given long-term decentralized and centralized rural domestic wastewater (RDW) discharge, nitrogen is continuously depositing in sediments. RDW discharge is assumed to be an important source of ammonium in surface water; however, the effect of long-term RDW discharge on nitrogen pollution in sediments remains unknown. Batch incubations were conducted to investigate the characteristics of internal ammonium loading from long-term polluted sediments …

  • Prevalence of past‐year dental visit among US adults, 1999–2010

Open Access•Mei Lin, Chien‐Hsun Li et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Public Health Dentistry•2016

Estimates of PPYDV from BRFSS were notably higher than estimates from MEPS, NHIS, or NHANES except among the edentate. Trends in PPYDV over time, however, were consistent across all surveys

  • Cognitive Function and Dental Care Utilization Among Community-Dwelling Older Adults

Bei Wu, Brenda L Plassman et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2007•References: 34

Objectives. We sought to investigate the relationship between varying levels of cognitive function and dental care utilization. Methods. Using data obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (1999–2002), we performed weighted descriptive and multivariate logistic regression analyses on 1984 individuals with at least 1 tooth and who were 60 years and older. Results. Multivariate analyses suggested that level of cognitive fu…
