Positive Parent–Child Interaction and Children's Oral Health
Experiencing positive parent-child interaction was associated with lower odds of children having any oral health problems. Future investigation to explore the specific mechanisms through which positive parent-child interaction is associated with children's oral health is warranted
Point‐of‐care diabetes testing in the dental setting
There is significant state heterogeneity with regard to laws, regulations, and reimbursement for chairside diabetes testing in the United States. This is accompanied by vagueness and lack of specificity in the state education laws. For more widespread promotion and adoption of this evidence-based screening, the entire dental community including clinicians, educators, policymakers, payers, and professional organizations at all levels are encourage…
Social support and oral health among working‐age and older adults in the United States
Higher odds of untreated dental caries and severe tooth loss were found among U.S. adults with low levels of social support compared to those with moderate-to-high levels of social support. Additional studies are warranted to provide a more current perspective on the impact of social support on oral health so that programs may be developed and tailored to reach these populations
Acculturation and Dental Care-Related Anxiety
Dental access and expenditures for adults with intellectual and other disabilities
Despite similar mean total dental expenditures, reduced dental access reported by adults with ID suggests that this population experiences significantly greater challenges obtaining dental care. Adults with ID rely more heavily on Medicaid to finance dental care
A Call to End the Use of Dental Radiographs for Age Estimation
Diet quality and dental caries in the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos
An association between diet quality and dental caries was restricted to foreign-born Latinix and was not limited to the adverse impact of sugar-sweetened drinks
Perceived dental care need and actual oral health status in the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL)
In bivariate analysis, self-reported type of dental care needed appear indicative of actual oral disease state and may be of value for the surveillance of oral diseases when clinical measures are unattainable. In multivariable prediction modeling, these subjective measures had low PPVs thus limiting the generalizability of our findings. Nonetheless, validation and refinement of these constructs in other populations is warranted
Trends in non‐traumatic dental emergency department use in New York and New Jersey
The experiences in NY and NJ suggest that the timing of expansion had significant effects on payer distribution for NTDCs. Racial disparities continue exist with black individuals disproportionately accessing EDs for NTDCs
Expanded Medicaid dental coverage under the Affordable Care Act
The Minnesota experience suggests that the increase in Medicaid dental benefits through the ACA has significantly decreased NTDC visits, especially among young adults who were eligible for a dependent coverage policy that extends parents' health insurance to age 26. To our knowledge, no previous study has reported on the impact of early Medicaid expansion on the rate of ED use for NTDCs
