“I Put a Lot of Emphasis on Work Because I Want to Keep My Job”
BACKGROUND: Long Covid is a complex condition characterised by persistent multisystemic symptoms following a Covid-19 infection, which can influence an individual's capability to sustain employment. However, there is limited evidence of how diverse presentations of long Covid can shape employment and what support strategies might be useful for different groups. AIM: To address this, we aimed to explore the experiences of employment changes among …
Challenges of Inclusion
INTRODUCTION: People with long Covid report a wide range of symptoms and inconsistent responses when seeking clinical diagnosis and support. Much of the qualitative research on long Covid has been based on people attending specialist clinical services or who have accessed support groups. We aimed to understand the varied experiences of persistent symptoms following Covid-19 and the impact on the lives of people affected. METHODS: Qualitative inte…
Co-designing interventions with multiple stakeholders to address barriers and promote equitable access to HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) in Black women in England
This study highlights the importance of co-designing interventions with Black women to address multi-level barriers to PrEP access. It underscores the need for community education, healthcare system reforms, and the inclusion of Black women in decision-making processes to reduce PrEP equity gaps. The co-designed interventions provided a tailored, context-specific strategy that could improve PrEP uptake among Black women in England
A Sars-CoV-2 outbreak in a plastics manufacturing plant
The findings reinforce the importance of enhanced infection control measures in manufacturing sectors, including improved ventilation with possible consideration of CO 2 monitoring, utilising air cleaning interventions in enclosed environments, and provision of good-quality face masks (i.e., surgical masks or FFP2/FFP3 respirators) especially when social distancing cannot be maintained. Further research on the impacts of job security-related conc…
Design and Implementation of a National Program to Monitor the Prevalence of Sars-CoV-2 IgG Antibodies in England Using Self-Testing
Data System. The UK Department of Health and Social Care funded the REal-time Assessment of Community Transmission-2 (REACT-2) study to estimate community prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 IgG (immunoglobulin G) antibodies in England. Data Collection/Processing. We obtained random cross-sectional samples of adults from the National Health Service (NHS) patient list (near-universal coverage). We sent participants a lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) self-test…
Design and Implementation of a National Sars-CoV-2 Monitoring Program in England
Data System. The REal-time Assessment of Community Transmission-1 (REACT-1) Study was funded by the Department of Health and Social Care in England to provide reliable and timely estimates of prevalence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection over time, by person and place. Data Collection/Processing. The study team (researchers from Imperial College London and its logistics partner Ipsos) wrote to named individu…
Investigation of a Sars-CoV-2 Outbreak at an Automotive Manufacturing Site in England
Workplace-related outbreaks of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) continue to occur globally. The manufacturing sector presents a particular concern for outbreaks, and a better understanding of transmission risks are needed. Between 9 March and 24 April 2021, the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) Outbreak Investigation to Understand Transmission (COVID-OUT) study undertook a comprehensive investigation of a SARS-CoV-2 …
Health, Lifestyle, and Psycho-Social Determinants of Poor Sleep Quality During the Early Phase of the Covid-19 Pandemic
Background: Several studies have assessed the impact of COVID-19-related lockdowns on sleep quality across global populations. However, no study to date has specifically assessed at-risk populations, particularly those at highest risk of complications from coronavirus infection deemed “clinically-extremely-vulnerable-(COVID-19CEV)” (as defined by Public Health England). Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we surveyed 5,558 adults aged ≥50 yea…
