  • Prospective cohort analysis of cellphone use and emotional and behavioural difficulties in children

Madhuri Sudan, Jørn Olsen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2016•References: 25

BACKGROUND: We previously reported associations between cellphone exposure and emotional and behavioural difficulties in children in the Danish National Birth Cohort using cross-sectional data. To overcome the limitations of cross-sectional analysis, we re-examined these associations with prospectively collected data. METHODS: Based on maternal reports, prenatal and postnatal cellphone exposures were assessed at age 7 years, and emotional and beh…

  • Job Exposure Matrix for Electric Shock Risks with Their Uncertainties

Open Access•Ximena Vergara, Ximena P Vergara et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015

We present an update to an electric shock job exposure matrix (JEM) that assigned ordinal electric shocks exposure for 501 occupational titles based on electric shocks and electrocutions from two available data sources and expert judgment. Using formal expert elicitation and starting with data on electric injury, we arrive at a consensus-based JEM. In our new JEM, we quantify exposures by adding three new dimensions: (1) the elicited median propo…

  • Race/ethnicity and the risk of childhood leukaemia

Sona Oksuzyan, Catherine M Crespi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2015•References: 40

BACKGROUND: We conducted a large registry-based study in California to investigate the association between race/ethnicity and childhood leukaemia focusing on two subtypes: acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). METHODS: We obtained information on 5788 cases and 5788 controls by linking California cancer and birth registries. We evaluated relative risk of childhood leukaemia by race and ethnicity of the child and th…

  • Perception of risk from electric and magnetic fields

Open Access•Marilda E Novaes Lipp, Flávio Eitor Barbieri et al.•ARTICLE•Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas)•2013

The present study aimed to investigate the perception of risk in the Brazilian population related to electric and magnetic fields. Six hundred adults were recruited from the surrounding communities. Three hundred of them lived in large cities and an equal number lived in small towns. A short questionnaire was constructed to assess risk perception, trust in government to control risk exposure, level of comfort with exposure to extra-low-frequency …

  • On the association of cell phone exposure with childhood behaviour

Madhuri Sudan, Leeka Kheifets et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2013•Cited by: 2•References: 4

We were pleased to read the paper by Guxens et al,1 which examined the association of prenatal cell phone and cordless phone use with behavioural problems in children. We are encouraged to see new research on this topic, but would like to point out several limitations in that study. The authors concluded that they did not find an association between prenatal cell phone use and behavioural problems in children, and that their findings differed fro…

  • Cell phone use and behavioural problems in young children

Hozefa A Divan, Leeka Kheifets et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2012•Cited by: 8•References: 12

BACKGROUND: Potential health effects of cell phone use in children have not been adequately examined. As children are using cell phones at earlier ages, research among this group has been identified as the highest priority by both national and international organisations. The authors previously reported results from the Danish National Birth Cohort (DNBC), which looked at prenatal and postnatal exposure to cell phone use and behavioural problems …

  • The precautionary principle and EMF

Leeka Kheifets, Leeka I Kheifets et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Risk Research•2001•Cited by: 3

The precautionary principle, a recommendation to consider action to avoid a possible harm even if it is not certain to occur, is variously defined and interpreted. We present a range of definitions with an emphasis on their requirements for strength of evidence of harm and for actions to be taken. We describe the variety of approaches that have been adopted in developing policy to address the issue of possible health effects of electric and magne…

  • Fetal loss and work in a waste water treatment plant

Robert W Morgan, Leeka Kheifets et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1984•Cited by: 2•References: 12

We investigated pregnancy outcomes in 101 wives of workers employed in a waste water treatment plant (WWTP), and verified fetal losses by hospital records. Paternal work histories were compiled and each of the 210 pregnancies was assigned a paternal exposure category. The relative risk of fetal loss was increased when paternal exposure to the WWTP occurred around the time of conception
