Low HIV Preexposure Prophylaxis Coverage Among Women
Objectives. HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use has increased since its US Food and Drug Administration approval in 2012. Our objective was to describe trends in PrEP use by US women. Methods. Using national pharmacy and HIV surveillance data, we calculated the PrEP-to-diagnosis ratio (PDR), a measure of PrEP prescriptions each year compared with HIV diagnoses the previous year, for women from 2017 to 2023. We also calculated PDRs in 2023 for …
Estimating Gains in HIV Testing by Expanding HIV Screening at Routine Checkups
Objectives. To estimate gains in the prevalence of individuals who had ever been tested for HIV overall and by subpopulations from increases in the percentage of persons who had a routine checkup and were tested. Methods. We used data from the 2019 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System to determine the prevalence of individuals who were ever tested for HIV and the prevalence of missed opportunities for HIV testing among those never tested in…
HIV Testing and Linkage to Care Among Transgender Women Who Have Sex with Men
Trends in HIV Testing Among US Adults, Aged 18–64 Years, 2011–2017
Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM) Who Have Not Previously Tested for HIV
Stigmatizing Attitudes Toward People Living with HIV Among Adults and Adolescents in the United States
Identifying Which Place Characteristics are Associated with the Odds of Recent HIV Testing in a Large Sample of People Who Inject Drugs in 19 US Metropolitan Areas
Recommendations for HIV Screening of Gay, Bisexual, and Other Men Who Have Sex with Men — United States, 2017
CDC's 2006 recommendations for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) testing state that all persons aged 13-64 years should be screened for HIV at least once, and that persons at higher risk for HIV infection, including sexually active gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM), should be rescreened at least annually (1). Authors of reports published since 2006, including CDC (2), suggested that MSM, a group that is at highest risk for…
HIV Testing Among Foreign-Born Men and Women in the United States
Contribution of Anal Sex to HIV Prevalence Among Heterosexuals
HIV Risk Behaviors and Utilization of Prevention Services, Urban and Rural Men Who Have Sex with Men in the United States
Surveillance Among Men Who have Sex with Men in the United States
Prevalence and Correlates of Heterosexual Anal Intercourse Among Men and Women, 20 U.S. Cities
Cost-utility of HIV Testing Programs Among Men Who Have Sex with Men in the United States
Racialized risk environments in a large sample of people who inject drugs in the United States
HIV Infection Among People Who Inject Drugs in the United States
Objectives. We explored how variance in HIV infection is distributed across multiple geographical scales among people who inject drugs (PWID) in the United States, overall and within racial/ethnic groups. Methods. People who inject drugs (n = 9077) were recruited via respondent-driven sampling from 19 metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s 2009 National HIV Behavioral Surveillance system. We use…
Migration Patterns and Characteristics of Sexual Partners Associated with Unprotected Sexual Intercourse Among Hispanic Immigrant and Migrant Women in the United States
Engagement in HIV Care Among HIV-Positive Men Who Have Sex with Men From 21 Cities in the United States
Estimating Design Effect and Calculating Sample Size for Respondent-Driven Sampling Studies of Injection Drug Users in the United States
Respondent-driven sampling (RDS) has become increasingly popular for sampling hidden populations, including injecting drug users (IDU). However, RDS data are unique and require specialized analysis techniques, many of which remain underdeveloped. RDS sample size estimation requires knowing design effect (DE), which can only be calculated post hoc. Few studies have analyzed RDS DE using real world empirical data. We analyze estimated DE from 43 sa…
Number of casual male sexual partners and associated factors among men who have sex with men
MSM who were black, Hispanic or had a main sex partner reported fewer casual sex partners. Our results suggest specific populations of MSM who may benefit most from interventions to reduce casual partner numbers
History of Arrest and Associated Factors among Men Who Have Sex with Men
History of Arrest and Associated Factors among Men Who Have Sex with Men
