  • Threshold effects of agglomeration on local business taxation

    Open Access•Jesús López‐Rodríguez, Jesús López-Rodríguez et al.•ARTICLE•Papers of the Regional Science…•2025•References: 2

In the foot-loose capital (FC) models, it is predicted that agglomeration forces create rents for the mobile factor (capital), which can be easily taxed, and therefore higher equilibrium tax rates are expected. In this paper, a highly flexible econometric specification (P-Spline spatial autoregressive model, PS-SAR) is used to examine the relationship between tax rates and agglomeration economies in Spain over the period 2013–2020. The existence …

  • The Indebtedness of the Spanish Regions in the Context of Fiscal Consolidation

    Open Access•Carmen Marín-González, Carmen Marín‐González et al.•ARTICLE•Publius The Journal of Federalism•2025•References: 12

The Spanish regional public debt-to-GDP ratio is the highest in Europe. In this article, we study the evolution of the factors explaining the recent changes in this ratio from 2015 to 2023. Moreover, we estimate the fiscal consolidation efforts needed to achieve a determined level of public debt. Likewise, a macroeconomic model is calibrated to simulate the future evolution of regional public debt under different consolidation strategies. Our mai…

  • Urban Care for Unpaid Caregivers

    Open Access•Paula Guevara, Paula Guevara-Aladino et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Urban Health•2024•References: 2

The Care Block of Bogotá, Colombia, is an urban program that offers services for low-income unpaid caregivers. This study aimed to (i) characterize unpaid caregivers' subjective well-being, mental health symptoms, physical activity levels, and use of public spaces linked to the Care Block; (ii) identify caregivers' perceived built and social environment facilitators and barriers to accessing the Care Block facility; and (iii) document the communi…

  • Timely Second-Dose Completion of mRNA Covid-19 Vaccination at Community-Based and Mobile Vaccine Clinics in Maryland

Cassandra Parent, Benjamin F Bigelow et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2023•References: 6

To assess factors associated with timely second-dose completion, we analyzed COVID-19 vaccine data from community-based and mobile vaccine clinics in Maryland. Overall, 85.3% of patients received a timely second dose. Factors associated with a timely second dose included Latino ethnicity (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 1.5; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.1, 2.0) and receipt of the first dose at community-based vaccine clinics (AOR = 2.1; 95% CI = …

  • Persistence of inequalities across the Spanish regions

    Open Access•Jesús Rodríguez‐López, Diego Martínez et al.•ARTICLE•Papers of the Regional Science…•2009•Cited by: 2•References: 7

  • Optimal Federal Taxes with Public Inputs

    Diego Martínez•ARTICLE•FinanzArchiv•2008

This paper deals with the solution to vertical expenditure externalities in a federation with two levels of government sharing taxes. Under these circumstances, the Nash equilibrium does not satisfy the condition for production efficiency in the provision of public inputs. This vertical expenditure externality is removed when the federal government, behaving as Stackelberg leader, chooses the optimal tax rate on labor income. The sign of this tax…
