  • Conversations about alcohol in healthcare – cross-sectional surveys in the Netherlands and Sweden

Open Access•Latifa Abidi, Phoebe Nilsen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

The results suggest that alcohol conversations are more common in healthcare practice in Sweden than in the Netherlands. However, positive effects of alcohol conversations were less likely to be reported among older respondents in Sweden. Our results indicate that alcohol preventative work should be improved in both countries, with more focus on risky drinkers and the content of the conversations in Sweden, and expanding alcohol screening in the …

Open Access•Nadine Karlsson, Elisabeth Skargren et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2010

In a general middle aged working population high emotional support was related to more sickness absence and also poorer self assessed prognosis of work ability. Multilevel logistic regression analyses were performed to examine associations between area reputation and residential wellbeing and social trust, controlling for the random effect of neighborhood and individual …

  • Correlates of local safety-related concerns in a Swedish Community

Open Access•Agneta Kullberg, Nadine Karlsson et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2009

We have identified environmental, socio-demographic, and personal correlates of safety-related concerns in contiguous neighbourhoods in a Swedish community. The results of this study suggest that residents' self-assessed area reputation is an important underlying mechanism of perceived safety. We also found a difference in crime rates and safety-related concerns between areas with blocks of flats compared with small-scale areas although the neigh…

  • Does Two-Year Stability for Scale Scores of Psychosocial Factors Differ by Socioeconomic Position

Open Access•Johanna Gustafsson Lundberg, Johanna Lundberg et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2009

Previous longitudinal studies have demonstrated the importance of measuring stability of risk factors over time to correct for attenuation bias. The present aim was to assess the stability of scores for eight psychometric scales over a 2-yr. period and whether stability differed by socioeconomic position. Baseline data were collected during 2003-2004 from 1,007 men and women ages 45 to 69 years. Follow-up data were collected in 2006 from a total …
